GE XL1800 Micro fan won't shut off after light burned out

It will be fine. They aren't made for sustained cooking on high power. Popcorn is dry but oiled, so it gets very hot and burns. You can use the glass carousel plate or replace it. Depending how big the crack is, any water in the crack will finish it off. A new glass tray is $57. A new Microwave the same is $319. Samsung are one of the better makes.

There is a door sensor in the door frame of your microwave that tells the microwave if the door is open or shut. That sensor is not working for some reason. The sensor is near the latch mechanism and is made of plastic and has probably broken and needs to be replaced. I would take it to a small appliance repair shop. Microwaves are nothing to fool with if you do not know what you are doing.

Kent, most microwaves will turn on the light when you open the door. As for the fan coming on, does it do that all of the time or only after you have used it for a period of time? If it does only after you have used it, you might want to check the back and the underneath of your microwave to see where the fan draws air into the unit and clean any lint built up on the vent holes. It is not the fault with the fan but the trigger to the fan is shorted. It can be the DOOR SWITCH or the Transistor switch from the board. A fault or error on the processor cannot be ruled out. Clean the main board and reset.

From the description one of the door switches is defective, or a more serious problem has developed.

One of the micro switches has malfunctioned, and must be replaced for normal operation.

A simple test is to place a piece of bread in the microwave ( it heats up very fast) and then if your microwave was actually ON and generating RF, the bread would get hot very fast.. If it remains cool then only the fan is on. It appears that you may have a faulty door switch thou because once you open the door, your microwave should be off..

Are you sure the VENT is not on? That blower will operate regardless of the door open or closed so you must switch it OFF.

The steam is perfectly safe, as with any other oven it has vents. Just as long as the door is shut and intact your safe.
