Oven timer and temperature display dim

My Thermador SMW272 oven display went dim for some reason. It's still there but very hard to see. Any ideas? Best Regards, Perry

    same problem

    caused by using self-cleaning feature

Heat vents are directly under the panel with no good insulation

This is a known issue and my 2nd oven is now doing the same thing.

Cost over $300 to replace the board.

Same problem with the light. But also with my broiler.  I found the part online for $269.50, but before I order it do you think the two would be related?

I have the same problem of the electronic panel being extremely dim. I haven't replace yet but will. It happened when the oven was only 5 years old.

Moderate use. About 5 years old. Display becomes dim, and now it is completely gone. Thermador service center tells me they get about 3 calls a day on this issue, but head quarter won't let them replace free.

I'm having the same problem...worked one minute gone the next. I took it apart and it seems the little tiny light in the top left-hand corner has gone out. I'm not sure I understand why you would have to replace the major board at the same time. If someone can explain that would be great.

You need a new display/relay board package they have come up with to solve this problem. The parts generally run about $250, and if you have it repalced by a service company, the total will be a little less than $500. The display is really easy to change by itself, but you must change the realy board with it, and it has about 40 different wires going to it. If you draw a diagram as you take the wires off, and label them carefully, it isn't that hard to do the whole job..just take your time. This is a problem thermadore/dacor ovens have had for some time. If it isn't too old you may try calling thermadore and see if they are willing to at least buy you the parts, as this is a known problem. Good Luck!

Yes, this is a common issue. The problem is in the display board that is attached to the front panel. These can be rebuilt quickly and reliably at www.fixyourboard.com. Along with the display board, the relay/power board can be sent and rebuilt as a set. http://blog.applianceboards.com/troubleshooting/rebuild-jennair-control-boards-fc-code-models-jew8-jew9-jjw8-jjw9-sce30-sce43-sce70-svd48/ shows most of the common model numbers and parts.

I recently replaced the display and board with good results. Its about an hour long job that requires getting access to the top panel as to reach the wires.

Thanks for the advice

Self cleaning F5

Hi,

Sorry you haven't had an answer to your inquiry yet. You may not even require a remedy any longer, but in the event you do I'll post it.

The "F5" in the smw272 wall unit is indicating the on-board watchdog has detected a oven temperature sensor fault/failure. The remedy issued by Thermador's tech support and authorized technicians service manual's is to first replace the oven temperature sensor. If the display should still display after wards, replace the main relay board.

It may be too late to suggest, but you may be best served having an authorized thermador tech look at it.

Hope that helps, better late than never hopefully.

Thermador SC302 double oven the top oven is not getting hot

We've had the same problem. I contacted a local sales room and they contacted their rep who promptly mailed the replacement parts I requested (I'd looked up the part numbers already). Now I'm waiting to find someone who will reasonably do the work.

Thermador Display

Have 2 Thermador ovens, SMW272 and SC302. Both have display failure. Just repaired one with replacement display. It did not require a new control unit or harness. Have not opened up second unit yet as display is still dimly/slightly visible.

Called Thermador and received no offer of replacement parts or service. Numerous other web reports of similar failures. My neighbor has 2 dead ovens also unfixed because of outrageous repair estimates ($600 each). Do not recommend this brand.

Full kit including display, control, and harness ordered on Ebay for $170.

Thermador sm272zs microwave/oven combo

Woke up this morning and heard my smw272 built-in oven beeping. Oh no! First the display (but at least the oven worked) now the oven is beeping (fault signal according to manual) and the thing is dead except for the microwave and warming bin. The only way to turn off the incessant beeping--which was driving me crazy--was to go outside to the fuse box and turn off the circuit to the oven. Yeah, I stopped the beeping but now I'm at the mercy of the unscrupulous service repairman--was quoted a flat fee to drive out and a hefty hourly rate (i.e., "value added" service charge). OUCH! Hey folks, please follow my simple advice if you want to avoid making a big mistake: NO MORE THERMADORS. RUN--DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS BRAND!!!
