Question about Samsung SyncMaster 17 in. LCD Television

1 Answer

Tuner problem? After a recent move, my syncmaster experienced difficulties that I think are in the tuner. I suspect that a connection inside has gotten loose but I can't figure out how to remove the back cover to inspect. I removed the 4 screws that are visible (+2 underneath) but the back cover won't budge. Any suggestions? Here's why I think it's the tuner (or tuner connection): 1) it works just fine as a PC monitor 2) As a tuner, most channels are visible but fuzzy or black/white 3) when I bypass the tuner from my cable box the picture quality is good on all channels (but here I am using the cable box as the tuner -- right?). Finally I guess it could be in the connector/adaptor that goes from coax to the jack. Any idea where to buy one of these?

They install plastic tabs around the cabinet to prevent tampering. You could have a bad tuner, or the input block as you mentioned. You will need to find those taps and pry off the back of the set to see if there is a small square box that takes the coax or is the connection right on the tuner? If this is the case, a tuner will most likly be available at PTScorp.com. If they do not have one, take the generic number off the side of the tuner and see if they have or can rebuild the one you have. Good Luck PS Please do not forget to rate this thread

My gear is stiff and experiencing a difficulty when engaging second gear. other gears seems to be fine but the shifting is not smooth.

I suspect that it will be in the shift mechanism
If it is a cable shift then replace the cable
If it levers or other linkages check and adjust or lubricate as required
I doubt it is in the clutch as you haven't mentioned difficulty in selecting first gear only shifting from 1 to 2nd.

Coaster gear problem

I suspect that the synchro ring energising spring is failing and not allowing the connecting dog to move into position properly. First and second are on the same selector rail and move the gear dog from one position back to another position moving the same connecting dog. I think that you may have to pull the box to fix this.. get hold of a Toyota workshop manual and you will see from the diagram of the gear box what I am talking about.

Intermittent, but complete, loss of FM signal. Often there will be no signal (according to the tuner display) and then the signal will be captured momentarily; occasionally I will have a strong signal for...

It IS an airborne signal so you can expect it to be affected by the antenna and other electromagnetic interference. Most FM tuners have a selector for how aggressively they accept or reject a marginal signal. Perhaps yours is crossing that threshold periodically.

How do you connect the aerial to the back of the Samsung Syncmast

This is a monitor, not a TV.

Therefore there's no tuner, no antenna input.
