I've got the EXACT same problem; when I cu it on about 2 seconds later the screen blacks out and if I toggle it off/on it relights but goes out again 2 seconds later ... shining a flashlight on the screen at an angle shows it's got my page there.

Hi goldeneye, Sounds like the backlight inverter board. Don't mind the explaination I just cut and paste this solution from one of my others. It's a very common problem. LCD's use four small Cold Compact Fluorescent bulbs to back light the display. (thats what gives the LCD it's brightness allowing you to see it) The inverter board runs these lights and when they go bad they will typically show symptoms like you have or the monitor power light comes on and you have either no display or a very dim display. If you ever have one that has no display but the power light is on you can check by shining a flashlight directly into the LCD from the front (right into the screen) if you can see an image then it's either the inverter board (most likely) or the CCFL bulbs have gone bad. The inverter board and CCFL's are replaceable. Good Luck, El Duderino

Dell st2410b monitor won't stay lit

Ok, same issue here as well. Monitor would come on for 1/2 second and then the backlighting will go off. It's next to impossible to tell, but if you shine a bright flashlight at the screen, you can make out the video signal/desktop.

I have now replaced all the Capacitors except the very large one (didn't come with the kit that was available.) None of my caps looked bad (bulging) including the large one. Unfortunately, I still habe the same issue

So my question is....large capacitor replacement or something else?

I have a ViewSonic VX910 Monitor that hasn't been working. I bought the monitor at a thrift shop wishing to repair it after fixing 3 other monitors now. The monitor turns on fine, will sleep,...

There should be no liquid coming out from the cap at all. Is it the one that has 250~350vdc rating on it? The one in my pix has very small leak coming out, you can barely see it.
See pix here; http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/VIEWSONIC/Viewsonic%20VX710_910/?action=view&current=DSC00865.jpg

It should have about 160vdc on this cap, be carefull, this is the HOT (LINE) side of the AC primary circuits!

Monitor screen will not stay lit. It will only stay lit for a second then goes black.rq

The problem can be caused by bad caps in the power supply, bad inverter backlights circuits, bad lamps. Look for bad caps first, then post back what you find so we can guide you further, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Does it work plugged into an external monitor? (Any good CRT or flat screen should work.

Be sure to plug in the screen before you turn it on.
If it doesnt output to the LCD automatically you may have to hit FN-F8 to switch to external.

If it works on external monitor you are just dealing with a screen problem of some sort - either a bad inverter or backlight in the LCD most commonly...
