Hello. I have a 46" projo and recently replaced the hv splitter and pwr supply caps. After turning the set on I discovered the blue horizontal convergence wil not adjust.{up and down fine, red and green fine, no side to side blue} The blue convergence{horizontal} heat sink getting smokin' hot,and yoke plug in melting.Changing the transistors on this circuit has been tried with same result.Shorted blue yoke?

Re: rca ctc 169
Did you replace the STK convergence IC's yet? If not, thats your trouble, or you have a plug in the wrong place. i doubt if the yolk is bad, as that would most likly blow out the horizontal output transistor and the set would be dead. Good Luck,

If the deflection power board was changed with a known good one . then the HV splitter block would be suspect then followed by a bad CRT next. I would try removing one CRT drive board at a time by letting it hang free wires attached then trying to power up the set if it doesnt power up then try one of the other crt drive boards after reattaching the one you previously unhooked. If the set powers up if any certain CRT board is removed you will know the problem is that CRT. If it doesnt power up then its most likely the HV splitter. You can get replacement CRTs, boards and HV splitters that have warranties from www.tvrepairworld.com
I suspect High voltage splitter is bad, can you confirm chassis number?
It is on label on back with model number, something like CTC or PTK 169 OR 171.
IF ONE of these chassis or similar I can tell you how to prove block is bad and where to find and replace--most of these sets also have year they were made on the back.
This is probably a tv with the "ctc-169" chassis. The BEST modern chassis RCA built. I own 2 of them that I USE, one is a 32" CONSOLE, a lot like your 27" set the other is a projo. I would keep BOTH of them ANY day--over ANY of the cheap, unreliable, fragile flat--panel sets today!!
FIX your set!! If the picture was good--it still will be--these sets had GREAT tubes in them. Most likely--a power supply isue with a couple of caps in the power supply, perhaps the controller chip for the chopper transistor, nothing likely serious. Probably about 150 repair--or less.
The High Voltage Splitter is the cause of this and replacing it should fix the problem. Their should not be a shock hazard once power is diconnected. But just incase, ground each of the anode leads from the crts to ground. That should take care of any HV charge from the CRTS. Do make a note of which wire went went where, that is important. When you get the new HV Splitter, you will need to transfer the small board that is mounted on the old Splitter. Again, be aware of where the wires hook up to it and you will be fine.
Hope this helps,

That can either be the Flyback or the HV splitter. The flyback is located on the lower left hand side when looking in the rear and has a large red cable coming out of its top. The HV splitter is located in the front in the center of the set. These are both very easy and inexspensive to replace. I can post a link where you can get replacements with instructions. If you would like.
Pwr supply don't run properly. Go to pwr supply section and replace 2 small electrolytic capacitors 2.2uf 100v and 39uf 100v. Maybe need replace 470uf 25v. If still with problems, try to see under CTR (picture tubes) for leak coolant, some times cause dont run the set ( polarity chassis). Possible High splitter voltage with damage ( smeal born when you turn on set), I hope my suggestion help you. Thank you, have nice day.
HV splitter and flyback are common failure items. Remove the HV lead from the HV splitter that comes from the flyback, Place that into a dry glass jar secured so it doesnt come out. Then try powering up the set if the set powers up without shutting down the splitter is bad.
On the 205064 hv splitter with the splitter mounted in the set, left to right, hv transformer, red tube, green tube, blue tube, plug on right side goes to screen asy,the black wires plug on the left side of splitter, which are grounds.
