Whar does it mean when i get a message that say change engine oil

Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change
indicator system. The "Oil Change Due" message will
flash in the EVIC display for approximately 10 seconds
after a single chime has sounded to indicate the next
scheduled oil change interval. The engine oil change
indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the
engine oil change interval may fluctuate dependent upon
your personal driving style.

Unless reset, this message will continue to display each
time you cycle the ignition to the ON/RUN position. To
turn off the message temporarily, press and release the
MENU button. To reset the oil change indicator system
(after performing the scheduled maintenance), perform
the following procedure:

1. Without pressing the brake pedal, push the ENGINE
START/STOP button and cycle the ignition to the ON/
RUN position (Do not start the engine.)

2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal, slowly, three times
within 10 seconds.

3. Without pressing the brake pedal, push the ENGINE
START/STOP button once to return the ignition to the
OFF/LOCK position.

NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you
start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not
reset. If necessary, repeat this procedure.

Means you have a low oil pressure issue. First check oil level, if ok call shop who did oil change and describe your check engine issue.

Do you mean the "Oil" light or the "Oil Life System" light?

If the oil light is on, you need to stop operating the engine and have it checked to find out why the light is telling you that there is no oil pressure.

If you mean the Oil Life light, Then here are the instructions:

How to Reset the CHANGE ENGINE OIL Message

1. With the ignition key in RUN but the engine off,

fully push and release the accelerator pedal slowly

three times within five seconds.

2. Turn the key to OFF.

If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message comes

back on, the engine oil life monitor has not reset.
Repeat the procedure.

The check engine light and the oil change indicator message are more than likely not related. You can toggle through the functions and get the oil life % to display then push the reset and hold it for a few seconds and it will reset the oil life indicator message. It should read oil life 100% after reset. (I would change the oil and filter if you have not already done so.)

The check engine light means you are setting an engine code, if it stays on, it is a hard code, if it is intermittant it is a soft code. Have it checked with a scan tool -- plug into your a.l.d.l. connector below the dash on the drivers side and read the code. Autozone and other places will do this for free.

on Most cars it means to take it in for routine maintenance, Oil change etc. A lot of newer cars have this feauture to remind you to do the oilchanges.
