Question about Compaq Armada E500 Notebook

1 Answer

Volume control buttons no longer working :(

Hi, I have a 4-yo notebook, which came with software preloaded incl Win 2000. About a year or so ago both the HDD and battery failed (literally a week out of warranty!), and were replaced, after which I then also upgraded to XPSP2. However, since then I've no longer been able to use the front buttons to adjust the volume, and it's causing quite a problem for me at times, as if I don't remember to set it low with software it will often produce some major loud sound unexpectedly on me which is a bit offputting. I have downloaded widgets and all sorts of other volume software to make it slightly easier for me to push it up and down quickly if need be, and in particular to mute it when necessary. Are the buttons also software controlled, or has something else died in the darned thing?? I don't have any means of obtaining the original Compaq software that was loaded on to it, unless someone knows where I can perhaps do so online if necessary?? Many thanks.

Is the volume control easy to repair and are needed parts available?

If it is a potentiometer that controls the volume and you have some experience and a few tools you will almost certainly be able to find a replacement in one of the many constructor catalogues and be able to change it.

Modern electronics tend to just use buttons to turn the volume up or down and those have been with us for longer than we realise. In the early days of this technology the manufacturers wanted to use buttons but the buyers still wanted a nice big volume knob so there was a compromise where behind the big knob is a mechanism that presses buttons as it is turned.

I suggest you take the amp apart and take a look at which method is used. I have managed several years ago to repair such a mechanism by making a replacement pert from a piece of junk plastic.

Philips TV 42PFL7403D/F7 Remote no longer controls Volume & ON/OFF

you can start with opening the remote control and clean the buttons on your remote control. don't use any aceton based products. there can be some grease on the buttons.
if you used the on/off and volume more then the other buttons.

Try this,
1. Go to your Media Player in The Play tab or if you're using KDE Desktop mode go to
Launch aplications Multimedia SMPlayer. 2. Go to Options -> Preferences. 3. Click on the " Audio : tab and click the" Use software volume control " 4. Right of
that there will be " Max Amplification ". 4. Turn it up! 110 shall be turn it up to 3000 so that volume will be bettar.

Hi. The "camera control" doesn't

Please find the below steps to access Camera Assistant Software:
a. On the taskbar double-click the Camera Assistant Software icon , or from the Windows® Start menu, point to All Programs, Camera Assistant Software, and then click Camera Assistant Software. The Camera Assistant Toolbar location briefly displays on the desktop.
b. On the Camera Assistant Toolbar, click the Start Camera button and click on the icons on the software.
NOTE: If you are not hearing the audio portion of the video you created, try the following: Verify that you do not have the audio capture muted. An X appears on the Mute button when Mute is selected.
Click the Functions button, and then click the Audio tab. In the Audio Output section, verify that the Digital Mic is selected from the Audio Device drop down list, and then click Apply. In the Audio Volume section, use the slider bar to increase the volume level. Verify that the notebook's volume is not muted. Pressing the Fn+End keys mutes the volume. Pressing the keys a second time restores the volume. Increase the notebook volume level by pressing the Fn+PgUp keys.

Lost my programs

Most of the time manufacturers put preloaded software and the OS on different disks, do you have multiple cd's that came with it?

Have you tried wiping the hard drive before with success? Did it install some of the preloaded softwares, or none of them?

Presario f700 drivers

You have to download XP drivers from the manufacturer's website. This normally happens because your harware was designed for the new OS(Vista).

Just go to and search for the model of your Laptop.
