Does it recognize a regular data or audio cd? If you get certain cheap CD-R's (are they see through?) then 50% of those actually work (which has lead me to stop buying cheap CD-R's at CompUSA...or anywhere else for that matter) I usually stick to Memorex...those have proven to be cheap yet effective.

If it's not reading your CD Burner, then SolidSnake's suggestion is the best one to follow.

I have an external teac dv-28e-n usb DVD writer device which does not recognise and burn DVD rewritablce discs.

I think that Teac DV-28e Is a CD/DVD-ROM only, and will not burn discs. Teac DW-28e is a CD RW/ DVD ROM unit, and will thus play and burn CDs, but will only play DVDs. Check your model numbers to confirm, and then consider exchanging units if you need to burn CDs.

Won't record record to CD-RW

First make sure your cdrw disc is blank. If it is blank try another good known cdrw brand disc and burn it in 12x speed for a good burn.

If it still fail check the software side of your cd rewriter first and lastly the cd rewriter unit.

Computer DVD/CD Drive does not recognise any discs

The most likely cause is a faulty DVD drive. Replacing the DVD drive is fairly simple.

You can buy a new one online for around $25 including shipping. If you need help finding a drive or installing a drive, I can help with that. Just let me know.

My Philips DVD8421 burner will not recognize a blank DRD-R disc.

Ok, the reason is quite simple. The Philips DVD8421 does not recognise the DVD-R format. Not all DVD/CD burners read all discs. It does recognise DVD+R though. So all you need to do is use these discs instead. This should solve your problem.

Hope that helps.

DVD+RW problem

When burning CD/DVD use a lower burning method... as not to rush data to burn and make sure that before burning the let it verify or test the data burned on the CD/DVD... it takes time, but be patient, after all it is your data.
