I WAS WATCHING A GAME ONE DAY ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TV STARTING CHANGING CHANNELS.
THE SET HAD BEEN SET ON CHANNEL 3 BECAUSE I WAS WATCHING CABLE. WHEN I TURNED THE CHANNEL BACK TO 3 IT STAYED FOR A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED CHANGING ON ITS OWN AGAIN. THIS PROBLEM GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORST. IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE IT WOULDN'T STAY ON CHANNEL 3 OR ANY OTHER CHANNEL AT ALL. IT CONTINUED TO WORSEN TO THE POINT WHERE THE UP / DOWN BUTTON CEASED TO WORK PROPERLY. THE CHANNELS ONLY CYCLE DOWN. AT ONE POINT YOU COULD CHANGE THE CHANNEL BACK BY PRESSING THE UP BOTTON. NOW WHEN YOU TRY THAT THE CHANEL DISPLAY ONLY FLICKERS BETWEEN NUMBERS AND ONCE THE BUTTON IS LET GO, IT CONTINUES TO CYCLE DOWNWARD. IF THE CHANNEL UP BOTTOM IS PRESSED FIRMLY AND HELD, THE CHANNELS WILL GO UP, BUT AS SOON AS THE BUTTON IS LET LOOSE, THE CHANNELS START CYCLING DOWN AGAIN. NOW THE VOLUME BUTTON SEEMS TO BE GOING AS WELL AS THE MENU BUTTOM.
WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS IS ANS HOW MUCH ON AVG. SHOULD IT COST TO REPAIR?
I have the same problem, except that it would turn on by itself and then start changing channels. I had a can of compressed air and sprayed the button areas to see if there were sticking. It worked for a coupe of days, then started happening again. So I searched the web and found a response to a question someone else posted and the ensuing reply "most likely you have one of 2 things going on one is the foam between the buttons and the switches or you may have a switch getting leaky and would need replaced" Looks like I may have to taking the cover off and find some type of electronic cleaner, or replace the buttons. I find it odd that I got hits for the same issue with the same model. hhhhmmmmm?

The control on the television itself is probably dirty or malfunctioning. Unplug the television and remove the back. Find the board underneath the buttons on the TV and gently clean off any dirt using rubbing alneeded and cotton swabs if needed.
Return the tv for another one for the replacement. This tv have a problems, call a delay prograssive scan. That why u see the jet trails of the previous pictures. This problems, will not go away, but will getting worse and even might have a permanent pictures screen burn of the previous pictures in LCD screen panel too.
Is a tv power glitch, shutdown, start again,tv have no problems, wright? Not a problems,if only happen one?If it happen many times,tv have power supply board problems, take ur tv warrenty repair or return ur tv,where u bought it,get a new tv replacment.
Your set is possessed! Just kidding. The answer to your question is in your last statement. If you smell something burning your set has experienced a voltage overload which caused a component to overheat and burn and that failed component has rendered your set non-operational. Unfortunately, this is not an easy fix and will require a trip to the shop. Get an estimate before approving repair. In the new world of disposable electronics the cost of repair may exceed the value of the set.
You may have a control button sticking either on your remote or on the front panel of your set.
I have run in to this on several sets. When this happens, some really strange things will happen including problems like you're having.
ok your problem is the RGB section maybe crack soldered at the RGB try to resoldered it! you seen that at the back of the picture tube they have small board attach at the neck... resoldred all small part, and transistor drivers!!!
