Question about HP LaserJet 5L Printer

1 Answer

Laptop - printer connection

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105S laptop, Windows XP and a HP LaserJet 5L printer, I´m using a USB virtual port for printer (computer recognizes it) but printer is not working at all, all I got is a message saying there was an error printing my document an that´s it. What can I do? I´ve tried to use printer drivers downloaded because someone told me I´d probably needed a new driver for the printer, but the computer says can´t create a file that already exists and stops the new driver installation.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1300 Laptop, and recently acquired my dad's old HP LaserJet 5L printer, which is attached to my laptop via a USB port.

I have a Printer Port cable that turns into a USB port cable on the one end...and have installed new drivers/deleted old ones, and gone looking on the HP website for new ones (which I am assuming they don't have, since I can't find them)

    I run Windows XP...

Can someone give me a hand getting my printer to print? All it does is tell me there's been an error when I send a document. I've gone through all the Windows troubleshooting help...and no luck.

You need to completely remove all drivers pertaining to this printer. Reboot your computer after removing them and then reinstall the latest driver according to the directions for it.

Another option is to find an old laptop, with "wireless" capabilities and a Parallel Port.

Connect the printer to the laptop.

Connect the laptop to your wireless network.

Tell the laptop to "share" the printer.

Then, any computer on your network can "find" the networked printer, and can print to it.

Add HP laserjet to laptop using a USB to RS232 converter in Vista

for the converter there exists 2 types.
The 2 types can be distinguished with respect to their pricing.

The one which is more expensive is much more capable of a good conversion.
I met a similar situation in the past, and i solved out the problem by choosing the one which costs more.

Check the HP website and see if there are Vista drivers for your model. If you installed them from the disk they're likely not compatible.
