SOURCE: Computer does not recognise Hard Drive

Hey guys. I have an answer on how to fix the Trekstor Datastation "Removable Disk" problem.

I also own a Trekstor Datastation 500GB and had the same problem even though it worked for several months then all of a sudden when I tried to hook it up to another computer, it stopped working. It would recognize the USB connection but you could not read the drive as it would say "Removable Disk".

In "Device Manager" it recognizes the drive as Sundata USB2SATA. But what it really should be is "WDC WD50 00AAVS-32ZTB0 USB Device" or something similar to that. For those that are wondering, yes, the hard drive is a Western Digital Hard Drive. Western Digital Caviar to be exact.

Solution: You need to open the cover to the hard drive and reconnect the hard drive to the connector on the board. It's that simple!

It is very loose and this model is not well designed so it can easily come off if you accidentally knock over your hard drive or move it to another location. The hard drive is held in place by screws on a holder where there is room for the screws to slide if the screws are not tight enough.

You'll need a T10 screwdriver bit to remove the cover and a Phillips screwdriver to adjust the hard drive.

NOTE: Doing this will probably voids your warranty but trust me, it works and it's really easy and quick to do. Took me 15 minutes.

You will need to try formatting the drive. You can do this from the drive management section on the Mac.

SOURCE: Reformat my external drive to NTFS

The only risk associated with file formats is that a drive formatted with FAT32 file system will not see NTFS formatted file system, whereas, a drive formatted with NTFS file system will definitely see FAT32.
To make it clearer, this means that, if on your system, your hard drive which is having the operating system installed on it, is formatted with FAT32 file system, and you bring an external drive, or even a backup drive which is formatted with NTFS file system, and you plug it to your system, the system will detect it but it wont be able to access the full drive capacity, you will just see it in the device manager page that it is connected.
But If it is Vice-Versa, the NTFS formatted drive will detect the FAT32 drive.
Now in your own case, if your system is formatted in NTFS file system and you plug in your external drive which is NTFS formatted also, from what you have said, I suspect that you have some hidden partitions on your harddrive (the 250GB), so when you plug it, try and do this, Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.
On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your external drive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.
If you see any other hidden drives there, do the same thing to it.
This should make your External Drive to be detected automatically.
Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!

How do i fix my usb flash drive .. it keeps going raw when i try to convert from fat32 to ntfs

When you say try to convert, you mean reformat from fat32 to NTFS? Depending on the size you may not be able to write it as a NTFS. Also, if you have anything on it you want to save, you need a raw recovery tool Squidoo has a good one.
However, if it won't let you format to anything and keeps reverting to raw, most likley your drive is damaged beyond normal repair.

Need restore my RAW file system back to NTFS without losing any hard drive files?

There are two options for you to get your drive stuffs back right now:
1). Do not format this RAW file system external hard drive temporarily and plunge it to your PC. And then, choose and apply RAW external hard drive data recovery software to scan this drive and find your preferred drive files back as many as possible.
2). Directly consult some professional data recovery services from some data recovery companies or agencies.
In the future, remember to save copies of everything important on at least two devices in case of any similar data loss issues.

Unable to read external HDD after plugging it to a Mac (previously it is readable via a Windows PC)

Chances are it was formatted as NTFS format by the PC which is not MAC compatible. You will need to reformat the drive in HFS format if you want it to work as a MAC disk only or in FAT32 format if you want to read it in PC and MAC machines.

Run diagnostics on the drive it may be failing. If it's ok you can try to reformat it from Windows Disk Management.

The file system of my hard drive become RAW.

http://www.z-a-recovery.com/unformat-tutorial.htm

This tutorial describes the procedure to recover one volume when
  • the volume was accidentally formatted
  • Windows reports the volume is "raw filesystem", or "not formatted"
  • An external drive failed, either flash (so called "thumb drive") or an hard disk connected using USB or FireWire enclosure.
  • MFT is corrupt on the NTFS volume, rendering filesystem partially or completely unreadable
The recovery is done in seven steps, requiring about eleven (11) mouse clicks. Note: The older than current versions of ZAR might have been used to create the screenshots in this tutorial. We did not update the screenshots if there is no significant difference between older and current versions. If you see some option in the program which is not described in the tutorial, just leave it at its default setting.
