Question about Syntax-Brillian Olevia 242TFHD 42 in. LCD TV
I've tried the method where you unplug the set for 30 minutes, then hold the power button in for 10 seconds, then plug in and that still didn't work. The reset button on the back of the set was of no help either. When I hit the on-off button the standby light will blink off and on every 5 seconds as if it is in standby. Is there any other way to reset this 42" Olevia? Thanks for your help.
No, someone will need to open set and check voltages etc and also look at power board to see if any puffed up bad caps like these:

SOURCE: Olevia 42 inch Flat Panel has power supply
What did you try so far? The main power supply MUST have at least the 5V standby supply section working. This 5v is used by the main control board to send out the command to turn on the main power supply section which will power up the rest of the TV circuits when the power switch is activated either by the power button of remote or on the TV powern button. Look for this 5v first.

Good news, bad news. Here's what fixed it: I unplugged the set and left it unplugged overnight. The next day I pushed the on-off button on the front of the set 10 times. Then I flipped the reset button on the back of the set 10 times. Then I plugged it back in. Then I used the on-off button on the remote to turn it back on, and it worked. That is the good news. The bad news is now the wife won't let me buy that 70" Samsung I wanted. Thanks again to the individual who suggested using this technique to get the set to working again.
