Question about Sony KV-36XBR450 36" TV

2 Answers

Sony 36XBR450 Tv will not turn on. The LED blinks from 7, 6 and now 5 times. A technician told me it might be the HV transformer. Before I order, is there anyone with a similar problem that was resolved?

Double check, the horizontal output transistor for shorts. Also resolder the horizontal driver transformer on the primary as well as the secondary sides. Good Luck

My tv will come on with no picture but with sound. stay on for a few seconds then turns off and the stand by light flashes 7 times

If no HV, ic8002 is bad part# MCZ3001DB beside flyback transformer. I usually replace IC6501(regulator driver) and IC8002 at the same time, they both have the same part number. If you are not a technician think twice first before replacing because you need a very good soldering skills.

Standby/Timer LED blinking

These unit are famous for the PCB Print to be cracked around the HV Circuit and or the Horizontal Drive Transformer pins needing to be resoldered. It can turn into a very Major repair if the HV Components short. In that case the Power Supply will also short out.
Hope this helps

Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-34HS420 34" TV blinks 7 times

Yes this is normally an indication that the HV has exceeded 33,000V. The first thing to check is the rgulator circuit. If you plan on attempting this repair yourself, please udate this and I'll look up the specifics.

If you need the service manual, perform a Google search. There are a number of sites that have the manual available for sale. I am not aware of any free site that would have it. THe cost should be around $10-$15.

KV-36XBR450, FD Trinitron WEGA

Hello maymet,

This sounds like the HV protection circuit is cutting off the TV due to a high current event in the set. This could be a problem in the High Voltage section of your TV (Horizontal output transistor, Integrated High Voltage Transformer, and y of the deflection components, and or the CRT in cases of shorts).

I would suggest that if you do not have a background in electronics, you should have an experienced TV technician troubleshoot and repair this problem.
This is due to the nature of the dangerous voltages that are present in the television.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

HV Sound no Picture

Sounds as though there is an intermitant, heat-related problem with the HV transformer. You can order this at a tv parts shop or from Sony (probably more expensive) the part number should be on the part or on a schematic. If not, the parts dealer can look it up from the model number.

Good luck! :)
