I installed the DVD drive, but it won't read the installation disc. It says "d:\is not accessible. Incorrect function". The drive will play DVDs, CDs, and pre-burned DVDs, but it won't burn, (same message appears)and won't let me access any files. I've tried to change the 'Autoplay' and uninstall/reinstall the drivers but had no luck. I'm not an expert, so layman's terms would be appreciated. Here are some of my specs to the best of my ability: Windows XP SP2 384 MB of RAM Pentium III 930 MHz I'll gladly send more info if needed. Thanks!
Firstly ensure the drive letter is correct for your dvd drive, if you still have an old drive fitted as well this new one the drive letter will probably be E:\. It may be that the bios is not seeing the correct dvd drive. On boot up press F2 or DEL, this will take you to the 'standard cmos settings' line. Highlight this line and press enter. You should then see a list of drives attached to your pc, normally pressing F3 or a similair command(depending on motherboard it will tell you how to do this on bottom of screen) detects all drives. Otherwise go to each line Pri, Sec etc, and press enter on each to see what appears. When you see your dvd drive is recognised, press F10, this will save and force a re boot. Also try right clicking on your DVD drive and go to properties, there should be a tab saying enable writing on this drive, but be cautious as Windows Writing programme may take over from Nero.
