The thread comes out of the needle and the bobbin gathers

When I try to stich, the thread comes out of the needle and the bobbin thread gathers on the underside of the fabric being stiched. This happens repeatedly. The machine worked fine earlier.

thread pops out of needle when i begin to sew

  • ttommargueri Sep 09, 2008

I have a problem with the bobbin thread. Thread is gathering in big loops on the underside of the material. I used two different colors and discovered the bobbin thread is not even being picked up--it's all spool thread. How can I fix this?

SOURCE: Thread catching and bunching up in bobbin latch while sewing

I had the same problem where the thread was getting all bunched up on the underside. I took everything out and followed the manual concerning threading, then manually moved my right wheel to see if it would get bunched up. It took awhile, but I finally got it sew correctly again. I;m still not sure what was wrong with it. I have a singer 7470.

SOURCE: "thread breakage detected"

I had the same problem and one day my 9 year old said Mommy the thread is winding and cathing. I noticed that if the thread is not close to the silver metal arm it coils and makes a knot around the silver feed arm and also sometimes it cathces the little white plastic peace where the silver feed arm is connected to the machine.

SOURCE: needle thread is missing the bobbin catcher

Suspect the lower drive mechanism is out of time with the upper drive. See your local service agency for repair.

SOURCE: thread mess at the underside of the fabric

Hi, maybe your bobbin is turning the wrong way and you need to flip it over. Or you don't have any top tension. Be sure the thread is in between the tension disks with the foot up. Its also possible that there is a burr on the hook part that goes around and grabs the top thread. The thread will catch on the burr and cause this issue. Usually after breaking a needle. Then the burr would need to be polished off.

Help! I'm having problems with my Necchi Lydia 3. Firstly when threading up, the threaded needle refuses to draw up the bobbin thread. I've followed the instructions and the needle comes in and out but...

try a different bobbin
make sure the bobbin in turned the right way in the bobbin case
also the machine may have a timing problem, and having it checked to would be a good idea.

Nv500 brother machine maked a grinding sound and wont stitch it just gathers and knots can you sugest what it might be?

Something is bound up. Stop trying to sew. Turn off the machine.
Take off the foot, take out the needle, take off the bobbin cover, take of the needle/throat plate and check for the reason for your problem. Look for lint, threads caught up underneath and in between the parts.

Clear all that out and put it back together and attempt test seam.

When iam stiching the bobbin thread is not interlocking with the pool thread ,the straight stich is not stiching properly

Do you have thread in your bobbin?
Is your needle fully inserted in the needle bar?
Is it the right needle for the machine?
Is your needle damaged, bent or dull?

When i try to sew after i have pulled the bobbin thread through no stiches are formed both threads are on top but no stiches are formed

Be sure your bobbin is inserted correctly. This is usually the main cause for the stitch not being made. If that's not the answer, be sure the upper threading is correct. If a thread guide is not threaded or if the thread does not go between the tension plates, this might cause your problem. And of course, make sure the needle is inserted with the groove toward you and that it is inserted completely in the needle channel. If none of these are the problem, the bobbin case may need to be adjusted or checked for burrs. I really hope this helps you. If it does, please come back to Fixya and rate my advice.

The thread comes out of the needle and does not make stiches. I have rethreaded it back several times and it does not make a stich.

The needle may not be set ( pushed in all the way)? You may have the tension too tight and the thread may be breaking? Your hook in the shuttle may be bent ( the reason for the needle not taking up the thread from the bobbin? Needle may be bent? Try a different needle and make sure that it is in the right orientation.

My machine is a designer 2 but I encounterd a problem with my stich getting all tangled. tryed to clean the bobbin case and under, stich is still tangling bad.

Be absolutely sure that the machine is threaded correctly, with the upper thread clicked into the tension discs (the presser foot MUST be raised when you thread so the tensions discs are open to receive the thread) and bobbin thread clicked into the bobbin tension slot. Change the needle - a bent or blunt needle can cause tangles. Hold onto the thread tails for two or three stitches when you first start sewing to avoid them being drawn down under the fabric and making a mess.

My machine gathers thread in the bobbin and then the thread breaks off.

check the needle to see if it's damaged
some sewing machines gather thread in the bobbin area when the thread come off the thread take up lever
check the bobbin & bobbin area for burrs
