I had a problem reading DVDs sometime back. It was a conflict with teh Roxio software. I uninstalled it and it started working again. Lately I tried to backup data on a DVD and the drive seems to recognize the DVD as a CD.
Thanks for your help.

how long is the whole process of burning the dual layer dvd's
your computers hard drive might be getting to hot try blowing out all of the dust from your laptop computers keyboard using a fine air blower from an air compressor making VERY sure there is no MOISTURE in the lines. dust causes static which causes lots of unforseen problems with a computer and its parts also you might buy a laptop usb 3 fan cooler pad just to keep things cool/er you might check the leads ((motherboard to hard drive)) they might be bad/faulty hope this helps
i ran into this problem a while ago. I had to test different dvd's. I then looked on the manufacturer's website. there they stated which dvd-r, dvd-rw would work. once i tried that brand It worked fine.
