My wife woke me up this morning to tell me that while they were watching TV, the color alignment screwed up. I went down to find that the green gun image is warped severely, but mostly on the bottom half of the screen. The top right corner is distorted, the center is pretty well lined up, but on the bottom, the bottom of the green image is warped up around 6 inches, in a curve centered just to the left of center.
Since the normal convergence adjustments only apply to the red and blue (you're supposed to align them on green), there's nothing you can do. This happens for all inputs on all video modes, so it isn't likely to just be a settings loss. I can get to the service menu, but I'm supposing this is a hardware problem and there is no use trying to tweak it back into alignment.
I know which end of a soldering iron to use, but due to time, it is unlikely that I will attempt the fix myself. Assuming it is the convergence chip set (and does this seem like the case?) how much should a repair shop charge to fix this?
If this price is too high, I'll likely buy a new TV. If I do that, then I would likely want to try to fix this one (either as a backup or to sell).
Any idea or suggestions?

The tv have a problems known as a convergence pictures problems,it is dead.Tv have any colors lines R,G,B mis alignments, have colors shadows pictures or pictures look like 3D?Yes,than the tv convergence board it is dead. The tv convergence board must have it components parts replaced like 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.To fixed the tv convergence board to solved the tv convergence pictures problems. The tvs shops will cost u like $300-$350 for parts and labors.

Usually this problem is caused by bad convergence ic's. These hold the three colors in alignment. They are better to be replaced as a set of two or three chips and must be soldered/desoldered into the circuit board. Most shops charge 200.00-375.00 to do this repair. I hope this helps. Most bow problems are from convergence or pincushion circuits.
Are the colors out of alignment and unable to converge back? If so its the convergence ICs need replacing. If the convergence isnt out of alignment you have whats called a pincushion problem. If you would like a link to where you can obtain the service manual for this model let me know.
The set has 3 IC's(one for each color)strictly dedicated for the aligment of each color,if one them does not align is because is going bad or is already bad becuase picture can not be adjusted, the IC's can be identify because they are mounted on a heat sink and have the markings STK--- ---,they are all the same and need to be replaced with an exact replacement. If you are familiar with tv service you can replace them, sometimes the new ones need to be aligned from the service menu, you will need the service manual, soldering and unsoldering will be involved,If you are not too familiar be safe and seek the assistance of a servicer.
