Question about Toshiba TP50H60 50" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Convergence problems I have a Toshiba tp50h60. I had a sound problem where they took the board, mailed it off to fix some compnents and now the sound works fine... my problem now is that my blue convergence seems to be melting into the upper left corner. When working on getting it tuned in, I am dealing with the 1 and 4 setting. It looks like the crosshairs are tilted rather than straight up and down and I cannot get it fixed. HELP.

I have a convergence problem with my Toshiba TP50H60 50 in. Rear Projection Television. The crosses to adjust the blue color are off for #1, #4,#7,#8,#9. The remote will not adjust these blue crosses. The Blue cross for #1 is tilted and way above the white cross. #4,#7,#8,and #9 Blue crosses are all above the white crosses. How can I fix this?

My toshiba tv screen looks 3D. red, green and blue outlining everything

carol_mccool,

You have a convergence issue. If trying to set the convergence does not work I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4220499-change_projection_tv_convergence_ics which explains the problem, where to get the parts and how to do the repair as well as links to additional information.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.

Have colard shadows hit side of tv comes back in focus

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.pnghttp://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull

Hi I have a toshiba 50h82 tv that is 7 years old with a convergence problem with the red and green lines that is going to cost $400 to fix but now that I am thinking about it before the convergence problem...

You are describing 2 different problems. The convergence problem can be fixed by either resoldering the convergence ICs or replacing them. These ICs cost about $25 each and there are 2. I suspect that the $4oo is for replacing the convergence board. This should not be necessary as the board can be fixed. Also, the brightness problem can be dirty CRTs, dirty mirror or faulty coolant fluid on the CRTs. If the picture was good prior to the convergence problem, the set is probably worth the repair if you can get the board fixed. While the board is being repaired, the service shop should be able to tell whether or not the brightness can be adjusted.

Toshiba tp50h60 convergence

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs. To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as Tv Repair Kits to get a repair kit with instructions. Here is there link.

They have put together complete kits for most models that include the parts, step by step photo instructions, repair assistance, etc.

1998 TOSHIBA TP50H60 THE COLOR WON'T MATCH, LOOKS LIKE 3-D MOVIE WITHOUT THE GLASSES. IF YOU HIT THE SIDE OF TV, SOMETIMES GOES BACK TO NORMAL.

Sounds like a classic convergence problem. most likely bad connections on the bottom of the stk's. If a repairman were to do this for you it would run $300-$500, if you were to do it yourself it would run less than $100. Bad connection on the vertical IC can cause something simular to this as well. If you need more help or would like to fix it on your own please let me know

Convergence problems

Convergence ICs are no doubt faulty and you could have a couple of open resistors near the Convergence ICs also. You can get the ICs and or resistors at this link. http://electronix.com/

61g9uxc Toshiba Rear Projection Convergence Problem

ronniezay,
Don't replace the convergence board, but take it in and have the convergence amps replaced. That unit takes two stk392-110 IC's and are fairly inexpensive compared to replacing the entire module. In fact, ask to have them replaced with a more reliable stk392-150's...
