Panasonic DMR-E50 won't recognise blank DVD's only
My Panasonic DMR-E50 won't recognise blank DVD's so I am unable to record. I have tried using the DVD-RW discs by Tesco and by Packard Bell and whilst the Packard Bell discs provoke a "No Disc" message, the Tesco discs provoke a "Read Only" message when I try to record.
The recorder will however recognise and record on a Maxell DVD-RAM disc in a Cartridge.
The recorder will also read and play purchased pre-recorded DVD's.
Also, the remote control had locked before this point (message on recorder said REMOTE DVD 1 but I managed to unlock this by holding the power button and number 1 simultaneously for 5 seconds.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks

Bought my DMR E-50 from a boot fair for a tenner, with a broken door flap, which I repaired. It records and plays perfectly, but likes Philips and Verbatim DVD-R and Panasonic RAM for recording. As above, you can't use DVD-RW in this machine.

The DMR-ES15 is a later model (around 2006/07) than the DMR-E50 (2003/04), but essentially both should do the same job so technically - a good equivalent in terms of recording and same brand so yes. The connections on the rear (of the replacement recorder) should suit and work with your other devices just as the old one did.
According to some other online reviews, the DMR-E50 has had a few issues with recording, and finalizing certain discs.
I'd say go for it - accept the replacement - as long as it comes with some kind of guarantee, works fully and has all the accessories (including remote, instructions etc.) you should be good. Contact the store and seal the deal.
You can get a replacement original Panasonic DMR E-50 remote from various suppliers on the net or on eBay - part number is IRC85049. Just google 'Panasonic DMR E-50 remote'
As it's been 5 months I suspect problem's been solved - how? I have similar problem, E50 recorded DVD-r's lock up after playing about an hour. RAMs and commercial DVDs play fine.
