A bit late to this but here is how I fixed my dishwasher for about $5 which was:
1. Randomly turning off during cycle
2. Not filling with water (I checked the pumps continuity which was good so I ruled that issue out)
3. After running diagnostics it would occasionally run a full cycle after I filled it with water manualy
I pulled out the Main Control Board W10084142, saw that 2 Capacitors (C131 & C132) were bulging at the top (not flat like the others) so I replaced them for about $5 and the dishwasher works great again! [** This does require very basic soldering skills]
They are rated 1000uf at 6.3 volts and I was only getting a reading of about 150uf. Below is a link for about $5 replacements.
1000uF 6 3V 12 6x10mm Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors 10 Pcs
How to get to the control board:
1. Disconnect Power Source at breaker panel.
2. Open Dishwasher door and locate the 6 hex screws that are holding in the control panel face on the backside of the dishwasher door. There will be 2 on each side of the latch and 4 (2 on each side) of the edge towards the top.
3. The face panel should pop off with a little bit of tugging
4. You will see a black cover, remove that to expose the control board
5. Ensure you label the cables with tape or something prior to removal, some require a bit of tug-and-play but will come off. For example, I labeled black wire with white stripe with a + and all black with a -. Ensure you label the control board components if you cant remember where the black with white stripe goes and vice-versa.
6. There will be little gray plastic clips holding everything in, locate these and slowly pry away the board from the plastic.

Is it filling and emptying at the same time???? If not could be a heat problem. How long do you leave it running for?

More likely: the solenoid which directs the water to either the drain or the spray arm is clogged/jammed. Located underneath near the drain line.

Hello bckp,
Welcome to Fixya
If your dishwasher does not run or stops during a cycle
Is the Start/Resume indicator flashing? Opening the door or
interrupting the power stopped the cycle. Close the door and
press START/RESUME.
Does the Start/Resume indicator flash 3 times when you
press START/RESUME? The dishwasher is waiting for you to
open the door after the last cycle. Open and close the door,
then press START/RESUME.
Is the door closed tightly and latched?
(NOTE: On models with a dual-digit display, the control
displays “- -” during a cycle if it believes the door is not
latched.)
Is the right cycle selected? Refer to the “Cycle Selection
Charts.”
Is there power to the dishwasher? Has a household fuse
blown, or has a circuit breaker tripped?
Has the motor stopped due to an overload? The motor
automatically resets itself within a few minutes. If it does not
restart, call for service.
Is the water shutoff valve (if installed) turned on?
It is normal for certain cycles to repeatedly pause for several
seconds during the main wash.
If the dishwasher will not fill
Check the overfill protection float that is able to move up and down
freely? Press down to release.
Let me know if any of these procedures helped you?

An angel of mercy on another blog posted this solution and it worked for me as well. My Whirlpool Quiet Partner Dishwasher would not work due to the CLEAN light flashing in 7 interval sequences. I followed these steps and my dishwasher is not working perfectly...hope it works for you:
"Well for mine which is a Whirlpool Gold Model # GU2400XTPS3, I found the seq of buttons that I had to push to reset the curcuit board. I think it may of been in this forum somewhere. But I had to push - Sani Rinse, Heated Dry, Sani Rinse, Heated Dry, and then the dishwasher went through it's diagnostic cycle and then after that the light stopped blinking and the dishwasher works great. Supposily, there is a Product Tech Sheet behide the kick panel of every dishwasher, but mine was gone so I had to find the information on the internet. You might want to do a serach for the correct seq of buttons you have to push to reset the curcuit board. If you know for sure that the heating element is bad, you will have to order one. "

common failures on that usually are the heating element. Look at the botton and see if it is broken anywhere.
