Once it was happened to me, I went in folder options, enabled 'show hidden folder and files' option and got all pictures in memory stick that were hidden in picture folder for some reason. Selected all with CTRL+A, right clicked, clicked propertise and uncheck hidden mark Try that, might help you.
Keep the memory card in your camera....plug your camera into the computer and then turn your camera on...options should start to appear on the screen...follow the questions to get your solution...
The problem is with the memory card. It probably just shorted internally and is no longer useful. The amount of memory is not the problem, as I used a 4GB card for a long time and my card finally went bad. You will just have to get another memory card and MAYBE find someone to be able to retrieve your data.
The memory card can't be more then 2gb...the camera won't support more than that. Have you formatted the memory with the camera? If not try that, don't format the card with your computer.
If you have a computer with a memory card reader that takes the stick. insert it into the computer and goto my computer find the memory stick drive letter and format it their then retry the stick in the camera. also try to go into the cameras menu and try formatting it their if you cannot format the stick it is very possible it is bad.
I had the same problem. First, I changed my Memory-Stick, because after taking about 60 pictures the famous file error appeared. Secondly, if the camera shows the famous "file error" this can be resolved - at least in my case - by taking out the battery for at least 4 hours. So, if your camera is not in use, always take out the memory-stick and the battery and the problem does not appear. This helped in my case. However, this is in my opinion anything but satisfying. I had a Nikon Coolpix nd never experienced any problems like the "file error" of the sony digicams.
