I can view the images taken, but when I try to take an image the LCD screen does not show the image properly. Initailly there was a pink band at the top. Then after a few days the whole screen went pink, but I could still see the image. But now the image display is such that I cannot make out the object that appears on the screen.

If the Live View shows areas of total black, the LCD is probably faulty and needs to be taken to a Canon Dealer for repair/replacement. I believe the pictures are still okay on the computer in this case?

If camera shows old taken pictures properly in playback mode but does not show live view to take fresh picture then it got known problem of ccd imager chip failure that will be replaced to get it fixed.

I have got an S5000 that I can still view previously taken pictures from the card, but when trying to take pictures the screen and view finder shows a peculiar distorted purple and green picture and any picture taken is just a green blur.
I contacted Fuji and they say they can repair it for £90 (about $120)

hey my camera just did the same thing, have you tried replacing the batteries - i thought it couldnt be the batteries because the playback screen still showeed up just not the one to take photos but i just put in newly recharged ones and it can take pics again so maybe try that :)
