Zoom is stuck

The camcorder seems to have gotten stuck zoomed all the way to highest magnification. The on-camera zoom switch does nothing, and neither does the remote, tending to rule out a mechanical problem with the switch. Resetting the camera hasn't helped either. Does anyone have a suggestion what to try next? [If it had gotten stuck zoomed out, the camcorder would have still been mostly usable. Stuck this way, it's almost useless.]

Just check the DC power supply flowing to the Lens block control. Some times the SMD fuse blows off and power may not reach the lens block motor.

The toggle button on the zoom is stuck on high magnification. It moves back and forth but will only go from 28 magnification to 34 magnification

This is most likely a defective zoom rocker switch assembly and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Zoom problem

Ive seen this three times and everytime its been something differant. Fist was the rocker switch was jammed. easy fix as dirt was in there. Second was a small serface maounted capacitor in the zoom interface circuit. An third never found the problem as we thought it was a limit switch in the lens itself but the customer never paid for a new lens assy so we didnt order it. Good luck

Super Zoom

In addition to the optical zoom, this camera is equipped with a super zoom and digital zoom for taking telephoto and wide-angle shots. The super zoom and digital zoom cannot be used at the same time. Super zoom is used to extend the optical zoom up to 14× magnification. However, the resolution is automatically fixed at 1600 ×1200. Digital Zoom is used to extend the maximum optical zoom to approximately 40x. However, pictures taken with the digital zoom may appear grainy. Camera shake is likely to occur at these higher magnifications, please see “camera shake” question for further details on this.

Differences between Optical Zoom and Digital Zoom

When you change the focal length of a zoom lens, the subject is magnified. Optical zoom replicates the zoom of a 35mm camera. Digital zoom takes a portion of the image's data and displays it at full size, producing a magnification of the original image, similar to the effect of using a telephoto lens. However, the process is different from the magnification produced using the camera's optical zoom, and the stronger the digital zoom, the more the image will degrade.
