The lens doesnt close, the camera beeps 3 times and shuts off.
I took a picture and the lens never closed. the screan is functional but when i turn the camera on it's all blurry, like it's out of focus. then the camera beeps three times and the screan shuts off, but the lens is still out. it wont close. when i turn the camera on (those few seconds before it beeps and shuts off) the buttons are not functional either.
Hi just had the same problem I freaked out and then read that about the lenses problem so I figured screw it if it is broke I have to go out and buy a new one anyway....BUT I yanked a LITTLE on the lens and poof fixed it....
The gears on the lens are out of sync. My husband took our camera apart and made the repair. My suggestion would be to get a professional to fix it or buy a new camera. There is no easy fix. Sounds to me that this is a big problem with this particular camera. Though it takes a great pictures and we were happy with it, I wouldn't buy another camera of this brand.
The batteries need to be changed. The digital batteries sold at the stores die out too fast. I had this same problem. In result, I purchased rechargeable battieries.

you have dameged the mechanism and the lens may be like a cross threded screw that is why it closes down. it is expensive to repair via Canon. so try this.. close the lens by turning camera off take the camera and slap it into the palm of your hand 2/3 times then turn back on. this should put it back in its aligned track. if it doesnt work the foirst time try to about 20 tijmes if it still dosnt work its a throw away or a big outlay
where you standing very close to him?
the camera comes with a 18 - 55 lens. at 55 it is ruffly a three time magnification of what you see with the human eye. you need turn the lens to the right when you are looking through the camera to have the image magnified. If that still doesnt get you close enough then you are going to want to buy another lens. or you can also crop the photo but how much you can crop depend on how big of a picture you want to print.
sounds like a lens error, does the lens extend or retract? You probably have to get the lens back on track, use gentle pressure wiht the camera face down on a towel covered table and turn on to see if the camera tries to retract the lens. I really dislike these types of cameras that extend the lens everytime, if it turns on in your pocket, your doomed!
It seems i have the same problem...although my batteries do charge, and i can take pictures. But when I play them back It does this beep beep beep and shuts off and the lens doesnt always close. It's really pissing me off
I had the same problem. Try to turn it on, 3 beeps and then it would shut down. Screen would come on for that time. Also, the lens was stuck open. It wouldn't close.
I twisted the lens (gently) and it appeared stuck. A gentle screw motioned seemed to free it. I hit the power button and it come on, but this time no 3 beeps and shut down. I then turned it off and this time the lens retracted and closed.
So, it appears that if the lens gets stuck open, it has a shut down feature that doesn't allow the camera to go further into its operation modes. I believe this stuck open problem occured on our camera when the batteries went low.
Again, a second of gentle twisting seemed to unstick it and with fresh batteries in, it was able to operate and shut down properly.
As far as batteries, I use the rechargeable Ni-Cad 2500 mA. They last a while.
