I have the same problem. Normally when I switch on the scanner, the scanning lamp will move forward and backward. But now when I switch it on, the scanning lamp won't move. And the lock switch is surely at the unlock position. When I call the service center, they said that maybe there is a problem with the lock switch or maybe the scanner. And they told me to bring my scanner to the service center. I just can't do that because I stay far away from them.
Maybe some one can tell me how to open te glass part of the scanner? So I can check the inside, maybe it needs oiling inside....I have the same problem. Disconnect the USB (which is the power source) and install the driver. Then reconnect the USB. The driver should be detected automatically. Go into "Device Manager" to check.
-is this a new scanner? is this the first time you are trying to scan?
if you answer yes to any of this questions, please check underneath the scanner, find the latch to release the scanning head.
I scanned by cannon scanner (canoscan D646u ex).Suddently the error message appeared that Release the lock switch, detach the usb cable and reconnect.close the scanner driver. What can I do ?
Have exact same problem on a Canon scanner (N1220U) which is several years old. Suggest you uninstall the driver software and reinstall it. I did and my scanner is scanning fine again.
