I'm running Widows XP pro with a side-by-side Linux instalation. While in Windows XP, I tried to install System Commander 9. Setup extracted several files to a temporary directory on my hard drive, then I saw a "DemoShield" box, followed by a System Commander 9 setup window. A few seconds later, I received an error message from System Commander setup "Not able to proerly read your hard drive. Please close any running programs and try again., Operation will close."
Have you tried loading System Commander 9 without Linux? the reason I ask is when you run a dual operational systems there tends to be issues that come up with certain programs, there have been to many problems with this type of settup.
Okay! that makes sense, I also have partition magic and never really liked it, on the shelf collecting dust. I will give your problem some thought and see if I can come up with something, thanks for the update.
I could not come up with anything new, I guess you will have to wipe the hard drive clean since there is no more options.
I know it is a lot of work, thanks for keeping me posted.

SOURCE: Problem installing windows XP
This is going to be either a bad disc or a bad hard drive. Do a hard drive test in the bios, if any part of it fails, then you will need to replace the hard drive. If the hard drive passes, then try a different operating system disc.

Actually I have on a different computer with no problems (Sam exact source files), but in the past I've successfully installed System Commander in both windows, and DOS while Linux was already side-by-side on the system.
I have actually come up with a viable possible cause to the problem, but still no solution. I loaded a trial version of Partition Magic 8 onto the computer in question, and it claimed that there was an error in the partition table of the boot device. It stated that the partition start and ending locations were incorrect and it fixed them for me. Partition Magic now shows the whole drive as one bad partition, but the drive still boots normally into both operating systems. Boot drive, and Linux is C while windows is installed on D (separate physical drive)
This appears to be a problem with the partition table of drive C but i have found no way to correct it to allow system commander or any other partition software to work properly without destroying all the data on the drive, and I've run out of space to backup the partition properly.
Thanks.
I'll just go without until I have a reason to wipe it. Both Operating systems work without System Commander, and I don't want to go through the process of wiping my hard drive every 2 months for something like this. Thanks anyway.
