Quite likely.. A lot of my clients have tons of trouble with this damned Norton... I simply hate it now... I get so many problems caused by it that I simply rip it off and use ANYTHING else... But in saying that... Umm.. well.... Symantec (Norton) Corporate Antivirus is simply marvelous... Go Figure... This is what I usually replace it with. But there are other AV's that work well.

It is a very simple thing to upgrade your Ram which is a great idea since you have only 512 MB. I suggest you buy at least 1 GB or more if you can afford it. Instead of just clicking save click file/save as and you can choose the destination

As far as i know you can upgrade the RAM to 2GB, 2x1GB 184pin PC2100 DDR DIMM Desktop RAM modules is what it can take.

I would recommend you try to do a installation repair. Do so by booting from the Windows install CD and choosing the repair option.
