Toshiba CZ36T31 will not respond to remote control

My Toshiba CZ36T31 will not respond to remote control at all. It does not seem to be the remote controller, since the tv controller also operates a Toshiba VCR and that works fine on the vcr. The vcr controller also works and controls the tv, but is not doing so now. Hence, it looks like the infrared receiver on the tv is defective unless there is an "on/off" for the remote. Is there such a switch and where is it located? Thanks, KC

Well, I solved my problem. I was able to manually access the menu and initiated the "reset" function and it now works fine.
    Thanks,

Exactly same problem. Tried the reset trick last fall and it worked then. However now response from remote is spasmodic. Would like to know how to get factory service manual so as to find out if IR is a separate board which can be replaced or if we just have to live with manual controls.

Exactly same problem. Doing reset rarely works now although was good last Fall.

I would like to know where to get the factory service manual to see if the IR is on a swappable board or on the main board.

Speaking to local repair dealer they just want to send a serviceman and minimum charge of $75.

If it's a simple board swap I can do that!

    TIA for suggestions

    resepct....

Finally hod this fixed. Toshiba gave me the names of 3 authorized repair shops. They all wanted between $150 - $200 to come to the house and do the repair. They cited replacing "the processor" etc.

But my brother-in-law had talked with a chinese man in a mall and we spoke to him. He said probably no need to replace anything. If he came to the house and fixed it with no parts it would be $80. If he couldn't fix it it would be $15 to cover the cost of the gas.

So he came the same day, in the evening. Turns out it was a cold solder problem with the diode that feeds power to the IR sensor. Took him 1/2 hour from the time he came in the front door, fixed it, and left. Just goes to show you what old time service and understanding can do. Most repair techs today only know how to replace boards not to really trouble shoot for the obvious.

respect....

Peter
