Toshiba CZ36T31 will not respond to remote control
My Toshiba CZ36T31 will not respond to remote control at all. It does not seem to be the remote controller, since the tv controller also operates a Toshiba VCR and that works fine on the vcr. The vcr controller also works and controls the tv, but is not doing so now.
Hence, it looks like the infrared receiver on the tv is defective unless there is an "on/off" for the remote. Is there such a switch and where is it located?
Re: Toshiba CZ36T31 will not respond to remote control
Finally hod this fixed. Toshiba gave me the names of 3 authorized repair shops. They all wanted between $150 - $200 to come to the house and do the repair. They cited replacing "the processor" etc.
But my brother-in-law had talked with a chinese man in a mall and we spoke to him. He said probably no need to replace anything. If he came to the house and fixed it with no parts it would be $80. If he couldn't fix it it would be $15 to cover the cost of the gas.
So he came the same day, in the evening. Turns out it was a cold solder problem with the diode that feeds power to the IR sensor. Took him 1/2 hour from the time he came in the front door, fixed it, and left. Just goes to show you what old time service and understanding can do. Most repair techs today only know how to replace boards not to really trouble shoot for the obvious.

Sounds like its control panel [TV] micro-switch has the fault. If any one among it do have an internal short circuit; this kind of fault can occur. Contact any service technician. It will be the best. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Hello!!! It has been awhile, so I do hope that you were able to get your remote working with the tv. If you have not, or are having any other troubles, here is something that will help you. Follow the link below, and you will find instructions for a power scan. the power scan scans the tv for all codes on the tv for the code that works with the remote. It sounds like a tedious process, but it is actually very quick, simple, and efficient.
You need to program the remote to work with the TV. And I hate to point you this way, but I've looked around for the manual on this remote, and can't find it, so, go to the Toshiba website and email Customer service that you have lost your manual for the remote. See if they will email you one. I bet they will.
simply look up the codes or contact your cable company for the toshiba tv codes to input into the cable remote. you may also be able to operate the cable box via the TV remote if the correct codes from the tv owners manual are entered.
Just found this bit of info on a CZ36T31 elsewhere and am posting it in case it helps...
"...and an intermittent problem responding to the
remote. I had a service person check it out and was going to have it
repaired because it still looks and sounds very good. The part was
available at a cost of about $85-90 plus about $40 for the service.
However, the service person didn't want to come back again for
another service call because I was too far and it was not profitable
for him, so the part was never replaced.
The remote control is OK. It is the receiving module in the TV that
has a low voltage problem. If anyone is electronically handy it
probably is an easy fix to install a new module or it can be use
without the remote with the buttons on the TV."
