Re: Whirlpool RMC275PD microwave won't start
I would first suggest unplugging the oven for a few minutes to give it a reset.
On Whirlpool brand microwaves, you will hear a series of beeps when you hit START if one of the following is true:
- the control panel is not programmed correctly
- the door is not shut
- there is a problem with the door latch system
- there is a problem with the control panel
If you do not have your owner's manual, you can download it here:
It doesn't sound like the control panel is locked. When the control panel lock is activated, you will see "Loc" and a lock symbol in the display and only the clock, timer, and oven light will operate.
If that does not solve the problem, then you have oneof the other problems as listed above.

1. Hold the Timer/Clock button down for a few seconds till it beeps and shows 12/24 hours.2. Type the time into the display. Use the minute buttons to set the hour, and the second buttons to set the minutes.
3. Press the clock button again.
I advice you to contact service if it has guarantee. This seems to be a psychological problem about your oven(!). Technical person need to do an electronic research surgery on its board to see if there is any wrong thing.
This indicates the door is not latching. The simplest fix is if it really isn't closed, and simply pressing on the door does the trick. Not so lucky? Latch mechanism itself may be dirty and not latching. Try cleaning it with standard spray kitchen cleaners and a good scrub, followed by a toweldry. Still no good? There's often an electronic interlock-- a place outside the latch, perhaps along the face of door, which must contact the body of the microwave oven. Again, try cleaning all possible contact areas. No? OK: microwaves are designed not to run without a tight seal to prevent emissions. perhaps the seal itself is damaged. Finally, and most unhappily, and expensively, the electronics module in the combo unit is shot. If the appliance is under warranty you're in like flynn; if it's relatively new but not under warranty, call the Whirlpool service 800 number and very politely but firmly remind them that this is really quite a new unit and certainly their products aren't meant to fail so soon... and surely they have a service bulletin because this can't have just happened to you... This will usually result in (oh happy day!) a free service call or (more common) a deal to sell the part at half price. Better than nothing!
Not knowing the make and model number of the microwave doesn't give me much information to work with. Try to google the make and model number, along with the phrase "unit beeps and error 40 on warming drawer", and see if something comes up. There are sites with error codes, which might help.
Also, refer to any literature that came with the unit, to see if they have the error codes listed, and what they refer to.
You can often go to the manufacturer's site and find useful information about various problems, and what needs to be done.
Wish I could be more specific, but will try to check back to see if you can include the make and model number, and then we will go from there.
To set the clock, press and hold the clock/timer button for three
seconds. A clock icon will appear on the left side of the screen. Input
the time using the numerical buttons and then click the clock/timer
button to save the time.
To set the timer, press and release the clock/timer button so that the
display shows all zeroes. Enter the desired time using the keypad. Press
start/stop to start the countdown. The countdown may be paused by
pressing the stop/start button and resumed by pressing the same button
When countdown is complete, timer will beep continuously for thirty
seconds and display will flash. Timer will then beep every ten seconds
for ten minutes until the stop/start button is pressed.
This timer will also time up to time activities. To start count up,
press clear/memory so timer reads all zeroes. Press stop/start and a
plus sign will appear on the right side of the screen as the timer
begins counting up.
press both Hour and Min buttons simultaneously for two seconds. You will hear a beep and the timer will reset. Don't press any other buttons for twenty seconds. The display will now change from the time to the clock. Press the hour botton. The hour digit will blink. Use the Min button to set the hour. Once you have the right hour, press the Hour button again, and the minute digits will blink. Press the Min button to set the minutes. Once you have the correct time, press the hour button one last time and your time is now set.
