Question about Epson Stylus C86 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Not printing The model is an Epson Stylus C86. Nothing will print. The screen says my Cyan cartridge is out of ink. However, there is plenty of ink in all the cartridges. I was able to figure out that fact by removing all 4 cartridges, shaking them and hearing the ink move around inside. Because Epson does not allow head cleaning if any cartridge is empty, I cannot clean the nozzle(s) using its instructions. Instead, the nozzles were cleaned by me using Q-tips and rubbing alcohol. Still nothing is getting printed. I don't want to buy new cartridges in case there is an internal printer problem, I would just be throwing away money. These cartridges fit only C84 & C86 models. Any ideas/suggestions about what else I can do before having to buy a new printer?

Same problem as above. All three colors are brand new cartridges, full of ink. Print utility says they're empty and the printer won't print anything or run any tests.

It's a long time now without any help forthcoming on this problem. Can you post a new comment updating the situation, so that I can try and help you fix it, or close it as solved!

The printer determines the amount of ink left in the cartridge by counting the number of ink "shots" when printing, head cleaning etc. This information is stored in the "chip" on the cartridge. Thus, it is not an actual measurement of the ink left, but an estimate calculated by subtracting the total shots from the original full ink quantity. This estimate can sometimes be grossly in error, usually due to a cartridge replacement not being carried out correctly. However, for all four cartridges to be suddenly out of ink is odd. The cheapest way to check this out is to buy a chip resetter on e-bay (currently one for sale at £3.25). Reset all your cartridges to "full", and see if the printer will now recognise them as full. If so, you can buy a new set OK. If the printer still says the cartridges are empty, post a new comment to this effect and we can provide further help.

Epson Stylus C86 printing blank pages.

Ensure the proper procedures for installing an ink cartridge was done. Next, perform at least two cleaning cycles (hold down the ALT and the Pause button on the printer panel to initiate a cleaning cycle). Print out the demonstration page (press the ALT button while applying Power). If the problem persists and there is no improvement, take the printer to an Epson Authorized Service Center.

My Epson Stylus CX4200 will not print because my Cyan ink is out. I tried printing in black and white only but still won't print because of the one empty cartridge. Is there any way I can still print...

I have a CX4800 and after clicking Print, I click Properties, then check Black ink only (is this how you are printing black and white - or is your document black and white)
If you haven't tried this option - it is worth a shot.

New ink not printing

If the printer is recognising the cartridge it is probably installed correctly. When you choose Print, check that the magenta image is red and showing a level. If you have run the purge and head cleaning options I would say you have a dud cartridge

How to change cartridges epson stylus sx 400

From older Epsons: If the ink cartridges are empty (red light on), hold the ink switch 3 seconds to move the print head to the left. If they are not empty, hold paper switch until print head moves left. Once you remove a cartridge you can't reuse it, even if there's ink in it according to Epson.

Epson Stylus C86 smearing

Your printer has ink build up inside it. This comes from cleaning cartridges and builds-up steadily over time. Remove top cover. Wet a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol (available at drug stores) and clean the inside. use a cotton bud where the swab gets entangled.

Epson Stylus C86 Printer Ink Refill

The chip that is located on the cartridge has to be reset also. You can take it to a ink cartridge replacement store. They will reset the chip when they refill the ink, however, Epson doesn't recommend this of course. It is cheaper this way.

Printer not printing

I hate Epson. Had problems with Stylus C82 and now my replacement Stylus C86 has given me nothing but trouble.
I've just replaced all four ink cartridges and now when I print I'm only getting blank pages. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and nothing is working. I even called Epson, twice, only to be routed to the Phillipines where neither person was very helpful, in fact, had a hard time understanding their English. So this is what I;m going to do. I'm taking this bloody Stylus C86 outside and smash it with a hammer..then I'm going to buy a HR Printer...and if anybody from Epson reads this...good luck...your products SUCK!!

Why can't I print with only black ink when a color ink cartridge is empy??

the Printer requires a fully operations set of cartridges to print. Some models of printer WILL allow black only printing - but not all. Are you sure there fore yours will? But still a fully operational set of carts are required to be on board. check out - www.fixyourownprinter.com
