Problem
Once in a while, while watching TV, the screen goes black for a sec and then it comes back. I have just noticed it happen over the past month.
Background
The TV picture has looked good for the past 13 years except for one repair about 6 years ago. Can't remeber what it was. Nothing but a TV Antenna used. TV located near a window.
Thanks for any help
Blanking in a sony like that is usually a result of a weak CRT... You can turn down the G2 and it may help for awhile, but the blanking will eventually get more and more pronounced over time. I wouldn't suggest having the tube rejuvenated either. That usually doesn't last and a shop may charge quite a bit for the effort. You're better of buying a new set.

Yes.... u must adjust the screen voltage going to picture tube....located on the CRT module>>>little board connected directly to picture tube (take back off TV and you will see ) play around with screen control on the CRT module......can be adjusted at times to keep from losing picture!!! tube is bad...i know sure looks good when showing a picture....TRY adjusting screen voltage ( YES while TV is ON>>>CAREFULL ) gl
There is about 2 or 3 things Lamp, Lamp Fan if Fan stops runinng then TV will shut off to protect Lamp and the Ballast Board is what turns Lamp on.Go to this website online Encompass Parts type in your Model number which is KDF60XS955 They list everything you need Service manual you can download for FREE These are the part number for (Lamp- A-1085-447-A) & (Ballast Board 1-468-875-11) Call them at 1-800-638-3328

Hi, IK circuit is engaging which basically means the picture tube is getting tired, the only "fix" is temporary (may get another year out of it). You have to increase the "screen control clockwise".
Remove back of set, follow large black or red wire attatched to picture tube down to the flyback transformer, mounted on flyback are two black controls, one is focus (leave it alone) the other is "screen", adjust it clockwise approx. 1/4 inch, remember that this is a high voltage circuit so use one hand in the set the other hand out of the set at all times, any questions ? e-mail me back, good luck, BMW Rider
The screen control inside the set may be on the highvoltage transformer or on the crt socket; either way if you can turn it up just a little clockwise and the picture comes up but doesn't look good you are likely to have a bad tube. Or try tapping lightly on the glass neck and watch the picture as you tap. If it reacts to the tap you have a bad tube. but the turning the screen control is the best test. Turn it the other way the picture goes off immediately. bad tube: too costly if it is available.
This is a simple and common problem. The solder joints on the vertical output IC have cracked loose. I actually did a housecall on the exact same set with the exact same symptoms this morning! A good tech will resolder the pins of the vertical output IC and all other major solder joints on the main board and the set will play fine.
