Ok, I can help ya James.
Basically, you have not changed the "display" settings on the PS3, so it is outputting a "standard" resolution. But, you need to switch it to get that HD!
Step 1 - Start up your PS3
Step 2 - On the XMB, go to "settings"
Step 3 - Choose "display settings"
Step 4 - Choose "video output"
Step 5 - Choose "HDMI"
Step 6 - Select the highest resolution that your tv supports.
Step 7 - Continue through the setup. It will ask you if you would like to keep these settings. If everything looks ok, click "yes".
Now, your PS3 should be outputting the highest resolution that your tv supports. Let me know if this fixes your problem!
SOURCE: how to adjust from 480p to higher resolution up to 1080
several things use hdmi cabling, also change resolution (can sometimes be changed on front of direct tv receiver) or may have to go through menu to change to the different resolutions. also turn the native mode OFF! having the native mode on for directv will give sometimes give you odd pictures. also whatever resolution you choose through directv menu's make sure your tv is also set to the same resolution
SOURCE: 42HDM12 IT ONLY SAY 480 720 HDMI HOW DO I SET IT TO 1080I

SOURCE: how do I get 1080 on TV
You only get it if they send it. Only Blue Ray DVD's are in 1080p and games I suppose, as of this time. everything else is 480i or 720p. As your manual says "TV CAN GET"--- not produce what isn't there. I hope this helps.
SOURCE: how do I get from 480 to 1080p on my tv?
1080P is a quality you'll only get with a blue ray quality video. Therefore, you won't get 1080P on cable tv. If your cable provider has HD channels available, you'll be able to get 720 or 1080i quality video (on those channels only). For the best quality, make sure you are using an HDMI cable. Just be sure your cable box supports an HDMI output. Your Vizio definately supports that type of input. If you have a PS3 or alternative blue ray player, you'll be able to watch 1080P.
