Look in audio menu or setup menu to make sure the speakers did not get switched off----check set or a box if used for same or volume turned all the way down---speakers being switched off is the most common cause or the audio circuit has failed.

SOURCE: last night our power went off and on approx. 10

You might want to take the back cover off and look for blown fuses in the power supply.
Just follow the power cord and you should find one or two fuses in the main circuit board. They`ll have a broken or burnt filament inside the glass enclosure and their values will be written on the end caps.
Replace them, but if they blow again then it means you`ll need repair before the set will work again.
Hope this will help Good luck

Tv went Black and wont come on now?

Sounds like you were having a power failure in the community,, we call it a brown out. just turn it off and unplug it,, I'm not sure if this is what the problem is.. I had this to happen years ago on a magnvox console.. I will check and see what I can find out for your model tv..

JVC 42 inch LCD HD TV has no picture or sound

utencilio posted this fix. It worked for my JVC LT-42X579.

Okay, I found a fix! Called JVC, spoke to somebody there, here it is:
1)unplug the TV completely, no wall no power strips, completely
2)wait 10 sec
3)plug TV back in and Turn it on, the light will still be doing the same thing
4)wait 30 sec
5)ON THE TV, not the remote, locate the menu, volume (-) and power button.
6)while simultaneously holding down the menu and volume (-) button, pressed the power button ONCE and continue to hold the other 2 for 10 sec.
7)on the remote control, go to menu>settings>system info
*** now this I know as a FACT will work on systems that display: JVC - ver.5.32FO001, but I don't know of any other versions***
8)press the mute button on the remote twice
9)unplugg TV again and wait 10 sec.
10) plug TV in and turn on

It SHOULD be working normally now... Thanx to the guys a JVC support for this one, I know it seems like an obvious first place to look, but sometimes it isn't. I for one checked online forums first

TV shuts off after 10 minutes.

I think it's in sleep mode. On your remote, click the button that says 'sleep' until it says '0 minutes'
