Flashing Lights on HP 690C - Won't Print

I have used my HP Desljet 690C for several years without any problems. Last week, I turned the printer's power switch off in the middle of a print job, because it was printing extra pages from the internet that I didn't want. Since then, the standby light flashes whenever I send a new print job, while the power light remains on, and the paper feeds about halfway into the printer, but will not complete the print job. I have rebooted my desktop several times, both soft & hard boots, I have cancelled the print jobs through the control panel, and also stopped and started the print spooler thru the control panel. Additionally, I have removed and re-installed the printer & drivers a few times. Each time the power light goes on like normal, the paper starts to feed normally, (usually), and then the resume light comes on, it flashes continuously, and the print job stops. There is no error message, only the error stated in the control panel printer status line. I hooked the printer up to a different desktop with the same results, each time connecting the printer first, so that the computer would recognize the printer thru plug & play. Help! I don't undersatnd the underlying logic - where to go from here? Thanks!

Hi Stev, First I know this is going to sound strange but have you disconnected the printer cable from the printer itself? (not the computer) If not try unplugging both the parallel and power cables for 30 seconds, then when you reconnect and power up hit the resume button. I've seen problems in the past where a job was killed like that and the printer would not work until the parallel cable was removed from the printer. The light pattern you describe, resume light blinking with the power light on, can mean any one of the following things on that model HP. 1. Top cover is open. Open the top and make sure there is nothing keeping the cover from closing all the way. Don't forget to check the underside of the cover for something stuck to it. Close the top cover. 2. A print cartridge is missing or an incorrect print cartridge is installed. Install the correct print cartridge. AND/OR Verify that the print cartridge is properly snapped into place. Close the top cover. 3. Printer detects an out-of-media condition. Load media in the lower (IN) tray and press the Resume button. 4. Media is improperly loaded. Remove media from the IN tray, re-square the stack, and reload. Make sure that the media-width adjuster and media-length adjuster are against the stack of media. Make sure that media is not buckled in the IN tray. Verify that the media-width adjuster is along the left edge of the tray and is pushing the right edge of the media against the right wall. 5. The printer timed out waiting for a form-feed command. Press the Resume button. The page will eject from the upper (OUT) tray. 6. Printer detects out-of-ink condition. Replace the print cartridge and press the Resume button. 7. Dirty Cartridge Contacts Use a clean foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water. (Distilled water is recommended. Tap water might contain contaminates that could damage the cartridge.) Locate the copper-colored circuitry strip on the back of the cartridge. Clean the copper-colored strip with the dampened swab or cloth. Do not wipe the nozzle end of the cartridge or touch the silver-colored nozzle plate on the bottom of the cartridge. Unplug the power cord from the printer. Clean the carriage contacts on the back wall of the ink cartridge carriage with a damp foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth. Use a dry foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth to remove the moisture from the contacts. If the carriage contacts show noticeable damage, contact the HP Customer Support Center listed in the printer's User's Guide. Plug the printer back in and try printing again. 8. Printer detects paper in the paper path. Turn the printer off and open the top cover. Make sure that paper is not jammed in the printer. Lift the right black rectangular paper sensor (located in the middle of the printer just below the silver rod on which the cartridge carriage slides) and make sure that nothing is stuck under the paper sensor, perhaps by blowing under the sensor. Close the top cover and turn the printer on. Try printing again. If none of this helps let me know and I'll see what else I can dig up on the problem. El Duderino

HP 6280 Printer. Not printing. Ran diagnostics form HP software. No issues. Printer an computer are communicating. Can run alignment test and Diagnostic Print Page from computer without issue. ...

Well you definitely have a pc problem and not one of the printer. the printer just prints what it is sent and as you can print the alignment page that takes care of the printer.

You have reinstalled the driver but did you remove the old one first? I bet not. You should download the hp printer removal tool. Run it and after a restart then you can install the driver. Personally i would turn off the auto update feature as hp updates really mess things up.

I reckon after the reinstall the printer will be fine.

Power went out last week. Can't print. The jobs

OK try this Remove Power Cord from Printer, remove USB cable from PC. Reboot PC. Wait 10 mins, then connect, the Power again to printer. Turn OFF PC. While OFF plug in the USB cable TO any other USB other than the one used before. Turn PC ON. After a bit you should hopefully have a working printer. If that doesn't work, Unplug USB, reboot & then using your DVD re-install it all again.

2. cartridge is out of ink
