I was about to dispose of this printer, but wanted to see if the problem was perhaps a resolvable maintenance issue. The printer installs and runs with no error codes, but no image is produced. This doesn't seem to be a toner problem as there is no "low toner" light. The mechanisms seem to be fully operational and it seems to run smoothly, just no image. Is there a part that may fix this issue? Thanks in advance for any responses. I hope this question isn't too vague.
Hi jcbrazz, First question, does the paper come out hot?

Ok then it's not the fuser. (the fuser "sets" or "fixes" the print on the paper by melting the toner into the paper at about 600 degrees F)
After rereading your post, it sounds like you're more interested in figuring out if it IS fixable and if it's worth fixing than how to actually fix the unit. Is that right?
Most problems on most laser printers ARE fixable. New laser printers ARE getting cheaper so deciding if it's worth it or not depends on how old the unit is and the cost of repair vs buying a new one.
Chances are your problem is the transfer corona wire.
The transfer corona wire transfers the toner from the drum to the paper by passing a static charge to (or through really) the paper. The toner, which has an opposite static charge, jumps from the drum to the paper. If the corona wire is bad or broken (or the high voltage power supply that powers the wire is bad) the toner never moves to the paper and you get blank pages.
There are a few other possible problems, like the HV power supply I mentioned or the engine controller, laser shutter, beam mirror...most things are replaceable.
BTW the FIRST thing I would recommend is changing the toner cart. You could be out of toner or the toner may have lost it's static charge. At the very least remove the cartridge and shake it up to distribute the toner in the cartridge. (and remember just because you hear or feel toner shaking around in the cart does NOT mean it's _not_ out of toner. "dead" toner collects in a special area in the cartridge after excess is cleaned off the drum.)
