Quantum ValueLoader SDLT 320 Super DLT Tape Drive Logo
Anonymous Posted on Nov 13, 2008

I get an error code A4 and 8A on the value loader LTO library.

After i got error code A4, i opened the library and took all slots out before putting them back. It worked. But it didn't do backup during night and next day morning i saw error code 8A.
Can anyone tell me the solution ?
Thanks..

Quantum superloader 3 drive error type

Hi Ulrike

I suspect that your backup software has "locked" the drive / library from the front panel.

This is why disconnecting / rebooting the library solves the issue.

If you are using backup exec or similar, try going to devices, selecting the library, right click and "unlock" before using the front panel buttons.
You could also use BUEX to do the tape moves for you instead of even touching the front panel.

Servo init failure stalled xy

Hi Edouard

This sounds like the picker has failed to complete the power on self test (POST).
This may be due to a damaged library or simply due to a tape blocking the picker movement.

POWER OFF!
Try opening the library to make sure your tapes are all properly located in the magazines and have not fallen out.
Also try gently moving the picker to see if you can locate any other obstructions. Be very careful as you obviously do not want to break the picker or anything else accidentally.

Hi Alan

Error 9E - Elevator range of motion out of specification

The Elevator (the part of the robotics assembly that moves in the vertical direction) range of motion out of specification

If possible, check for an obstruction by powering off the library and either removing a magazine or a drive to view the robot. Gently remove the obstruction, replace all magazines and drives and then power up the library.
Re-try the last operation

Error codes: 8C0A, 8C0D

This sounds like a picker fault (rotation blocked). Remove the mags from the library.
remove the power from the library (and your watch!)
Gently feel about inside the library and remove any additional tapes floating about inside.
Try again.
If this does not work then try going to http://tape-drive-repair.com as they have spare parts and pickers that they can use to fix the library.

Our dell powervault 122t shows error code A0

Error Code A0 - Error occurred during carousel movement (Position Not Found). Could be caused by a missing or misaligned cartridge carrier, or an obstruction, or unexpected cartridge in either the carousel path or Import/Export slot.
--------------

Remove the power cable and SCSI cables then try open the top cover. Check and see if there are any tape blocking or obstructing the movement. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. I have 5 of these devices, few of them were replaced as its not working anymore due to these codes and as they are pretty obsolete, its not worth to repair them anymore.

if you "have not" using Backup Software (e.g. Symantec Backup Exec, CA), you can try this IBM LTO-4 driver for Win2K.

Sn 3250 router problem

Ok, I'm confused... are you sure this isn't router that you're mentioning isn't a SAN Switch? A StorageTek/Brocade 3250 switch... and this is a StorageTek Scalar 100 Tape Library with Fibre aware LTO Drives. The Library Users Manual can be found at http://downloads.quantum.com/scalar/S100/omS100UsersGuide.pdf. Switch information can be found at http://www.storagetek.com/products/product_page2304.html. I'm not a Sun guy, so I would suggest that you contact them to find out which versions of firmware for the switch that they have certified. With HP, there are certain versions of firmware that they certify with HPUX... and specific versions of HBA drivers that work better with HPUX as well. If it is, in fact a Brocade 3250, I would suggest that you start with a "switchshow"... figure out which port drive 4 attaches to... do a "porterrshow #" (# represents the port found) to see the port error statistics... you want to check the loss of signal and link failure count. I would do an "sfpshow #" to see the status of the transciever as well. Let us know.
