BD-HP21U | BD-HP50U Firmware Version PN8091201 For some reason it gives me an error message on my player when i try to load it on. Im not the only one having this problem. thanks

Don't upgrade the firmware on your Samsung BD-P1600. The firmware from Samsung is faulty and will most likely crashh your machine, Permanently !!!. I made that mistake last night. Now I have no Video output to my T.V. from any of the video outputs on the blu-ray player. Also the unit turns on but will only display LOAD , OPEN, CLOSE, ON, OFF... Nothing Works now.. This is apparently a common issue and there are several forums discussing this problem.. No fix that I have found !!

You should have an option in the menu which says Update Firmware, failing that the Sharp website will have the update which can be burnt to disc and inserted into your player.

Sharp are working on a fix, it's to do with FOX and their anti-copy software, no date given.

I have the same problem but I did download the updates for both my Sony and Sharp Blu Rays and Avatar played wonderfully but unfortunately a few days later both players stop playing all Blu Rays. Has anyone had the same problem?

My advice is to contact the company that makes the unit and ask them if it requires an upgrade. Let me know what they say so i may advise further. Thanks.

Verify version of the firmware, if it is older then PN9062300, you will have to upgrade it. Newer version of the firmware can be found here. For instruction on upgrade procedure refer to the owner's manual.

To obtain the software update file, please call 1-800-BE-SHARP (23-74277). Save the update file into a USB drive.

1. Insert the USB memory device
   with the update file into the BD
   STORAGE/SERVICE terminal on
   rear of this player.
2. Press SETUP to display the SETUP
   MENU screen.
3. Press arrow keys to select
   “SETTINGS”, then press ENTER.
4. Press UP/DOWN keys to select “SOFTWARE
   UPDATE”, then ENTER.
5. Enter the 4-digit number using 0-9.
6. Press ENTER to start checking data
   in the USB memory device.
7. During the data checking,
   “Checking” blinks.
8. The current version of this unit software
   and the version of the update file on the
   USB memory device are displayed. To
   update this player software with update
   file, select “YES”, and press ENTER.
9. If the USB memory device is not
   properly installed or the correct update
   file cannot be found on the USB
   memory device, an error message is
   displayed.Check the file on the USB memory
   device, and then reinsert the USB
   memory device correctly.
   
10. Press ENTER to start updating.The screen becomes dark for a
    while until the update screen can be
    displayed. Please wait for the update
    screen to appear. Do not unplug the AC

You have inadvertently downloaded the US (or other region) version of the firmware. Unfortunately if you try and download the UK version the HP21 just tells you you have already installed it. I was told mine the only way to reset it is for it to be sent to Sharp or you can wait for a new firmware update.
