My solution was that Epson Scan was set to connect via network instead of local. (All was working fine, then it quit-something changed this setting) Try this, go to start, choose all programs, choose Epson folder, choose Epson Scan, choose Epson Scan Setting. In the pop up box set the connection to local or network, whichever is appropriate. Close the window and open photoshop and all works fine. It could be that your problem is the opposite of mine- I try switching this to the other setting even if the change is wrong, then switch it back to see if that works too.

Reinstall all software and drivers from disk
Restart computewr and reconnect printer.
This should fix it

Before we start, please make sure that you are logged in as the Administrator of the machine. If you have any Anti Virus software, or any other software that may interfere with the installation, then please close it out.

1. Insert the New "Vista Scan X" software CD, into the CD ROM drive.
If the installation does not start automatically, then please do the following:

1. Go to Start
2. Click on Run
3. Type "D:\VInstall.exe", assuming that "D" is your CD ROM drive
4. Now hit "Enter", or click "OK"

2. At this point the Computer will tell you to unplug your scanner if it is plugged in, so please do so and click "OK"

3. Now select your scanner model "4450", and click Install"

4. Now we are going to follow the Onscreen Instructions, so:

1. Click "Next"
2. Read the Agreement carefully before continuing, if you agree then click "Yes" to proceed with the install.
3. We are going to do a Typical Install, so click on "Next"
4. And now click on "Install"
5. Once the Installation is done, you will have to restart the computer, so click on "Restart"

5.The computer should install the drivers for the device automatically, if it does not then go to step 14 and proceed with the install. If the computer does not prompt you, then go to the next step.

6. Now go to:

1. Start
2. Programs
3. VistaScan
4. And then click on the VistaScan program

If VistaScan comes up, then do a scan. If VistaScan does not open, then please go to next step.

7. Click on "Start"

8. Go to the "Control Panel"

9. Double click on "System"
(If System is not showing, then click on "Classic View" in the top left corner).

10. Go to "Hardware" and click on it

11. Now go to "Device Manager" and open it up.

12. In Device Manager, go to "Imaging Devices"

13. Right Click on the Scanner listed, and click on "Update Drivers"

14. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", and click "Next"

15. Select "Don't search, I will choose the drivers to install." and click "Next"

16. Now you should have two Astra 4450 USB scanners listed. One driver is digitally signed and the other is not. Please choose the one that is not digitally signed, which would be the second option and click "Next"

17. The computer will now give you a prompt that the software you are installing is has not passed Windows logo testing, so just click on "Continue Anyway"

18. Once the installation has finished, just click on "Finish".

19. Now go to:

1. Start
2. Programs
3. VistaScan
4. And then click on the VistaScan program

If VistaScan comes up, then do a scan. If VistaScan does not open, then please call support at 214-739-1915 for further assistance or you can also e-mail support at [email protected]

Somehow your scanning device has been set to camera instead of scanner.
Loginto scanning software
you will see, somewhere in the menu to select the scanning source.
Make sure scanner is selected instead of camera.
After doing this try to scan

the reason why the printer is giving you that error msg is because the all in one center is not communicating properly with the programs on your computer to your printer.

try to scan directly to your computer using the all in one center instead.

dowload vistascan vs375u (11,674KB) and open it you will receive 6 disks+1 disk german and 1 disk english. open the disk 1 and double click VSSETUP you will see a lot of DOS commands and at the end you will have VISTASCAN in the Programs Files ( Start--All Programs--VistaScan--enter) .
If Scanner test works O.K.
if not
- go to MyComputer right click,
- click hardware,
-click device manager,
-right click the UMAX Astra
-click update driver
-click "install from a specific location" Next "Don't search I will chose the driver to install"-- Next -- choose USB scanner (Not UMAX Astra 3400) --Next--
- you will receive a warning " continue anyway" finish
- Reboot.
open VISTASCAN Test it will pass now

Windows XP supports Astra 610p with its own WIA driver. So to install the WIA driver open the Windows XP controll panel “Scanners and Cameras.
Select the command “Add” and as Manufacturer select “Umax Data Systems”.
Follow onscreen step-by-step instructions to complete the installation for Astra 610P scanner.

First, go to the link below and download the Vistascan 3.55 and install. http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/211488/umax-scanner-astra-2100u-vistascan-3.55-usb-free-download.html Next, download and install the Patch for XP from UMAX (link shown below) and you should then be able to see and use your scanner. http://www.umax.com/download/index.jsp Note: the software on the original disk can still be used.

The Canon support site is the place to go for that if your Manual does not tell you.
However remove the software and reload it - it may be as simple as that.
