This morning my phone started switching to silent on its own. It was sitting, untouched, undisturbed, in my purse and I heard the blip, blip noise of a volume change. I have tried turning it off and on, taking out the battery, taking out the battery and the sim while the phone is on, etc. The key pad is frozen and won't work unless you start hitting random keypad buttons over and over..then the ring style screen comes up. You can try to use the side keys to bring the ring style back to 7 and it will go up to 2 and then automatically change back to silent.
Sounds to me like you have a stuck key somewhere on your phone. Was it dropped? Or maybe you hit it too hard. Look closely at the buttons on the side of the screen . you know, the ones that normally change your volume when it's open. One of those is malfunctioning in the down or closed position.

Check above the volume key, there should be a little switch. If it's orange, flick the switch so that it isn't. Other than that, try turning your volume up.
Hi,
If you are using Android phone you need to make sure that the ring-tone volume is not muted. Just goto setting and sound and then increase all the volume, sometime even if the phone is not in silent mode it won't ring due to Android sound settings . You can also use the volume rocker key to increase the ring tone volume. Just in case also change the ring-tone as well in case if the ring tone file is corrupt. Now try ringing your phone from another phone and see if that works. If it still doesn't work, just turn off your phone and take the battery out for 10 seconds and put it back. Try ringing it again. If nothing works, there might be problem with your built in speakers. And you need to contact the manufacturer.
It would be better if you could tell your phone make, model and mobile operating system name and version, to help you further.
To change the ring volume, press MENU/SELECT, use up/down-arrow to select SETUP HS, use up/down-arrow to select RING VOLUME, press MENU/SELECT, use up/down-arrow to select the desired volume, then press MENU/SELECT. Press MUTE/REMOVE to mute/unmute the handset. If you need a manual, you may download one here.
If you can't hear the ringer when there is an incoming call to your iPhone 3G, you may have overlooked whether or not the ring/silent switch is set to silence the ringer. The ring/silent switch is above the volume switch. If you can see orange on this switch, it's set to vibrate. Switch it to ring and you should be all good. If this doesn't help, you may want to consider resetting the iPhone.
The only way to change an iphone from silent to ringing is a physical switch on the left side of the phone. When you see red/orange next to this switch it means the phone is on vibrate. If it is just silver it means the phone is suppose to ring. If the switch is set to ringing, and it still wont ring, try going into the "Settings" app and checking out the volume settings. So get to these, go to "Sounds" within the "Settings" app. The ringer's volume is displayed there, as well as whether it vibrates, and what tone is used. Make sure the volume is high enough to hear and that everything looks correct. If your iphone still wont ring, I suggest restarting the phone. To do this, press down the button on the top right side of the phone until it says "slide to power off". Let it sit about 15 seconds after it shuts down, and then press the same top right button to start it up again.
Your phone is set too silent. If it has buttons on the side, try pressing the up arrow button until it's loud enough for you. Alternately, go into the phone's settings and look for a "Ringer Settings", "Sounds", or "Profiles" category. You should be able to adjust the volume from there.
It is set on silent mode. In you phone settings, you'll need to change from silent to ring. Not sure how to get where you need to go with the model of phone. But this is a settings issue not a hardware issue. Just look though the phone settings menu to find the proper selction.
To place the handset in Silent / Vibrate Mode Step 1 To place the handset in Silent / Vibrate Only Mode, hold down the pound key (#) for about 2 seconds. To exit Silent / Vibrate Mode, perform the same action while in Silent / Vibrate Only Mode. The SCH-U470 (Juke) handset will vibrate rather than ring when you receive a phone call, message or alert while in Silent Vibrate Only Mode. Step 2 While in standby mode, press the volume key, located on the left side of the handset, then select either “Vibrate Only", “Alarm Only” or “All Sounds Off”. To disable perform the same action while in Silent / Vibrate Mode. The SCH-U470 (Juke) handset will vibrate rather than ring when you receive a phone call, message or alert while in Silent / Vibrate Only Mode.
Check if your iPhone is not in silent mode. Push the Ring/Silent switch upwards to turn off silent mode. You'll know that the silent mode is not on when you don't see the small red dot at the Ring/Silent switch which is located just above the volume buttons.
