Display showing 'OFF' and there is nothing happening, even if you try to adjust the display panel
Mine showed OF on the display and would do nothing, no matter what buttons I pushed. I reset the power once. Nothing. I then unplugged it for 15 mins and plugged it back in. TaDa!!!! That did the trick! Thank you buddymcl777!!!! You saved me a huge service-call bill! : )
There is a lock on the display. Try pressing standby button for 10 secs

It sounds like the unit is low on freon or the compressor is going bad. You have several other components that could be affecting this as well. Make sure the coils are free from dust and clean underneath. This is a bit premature for you to have problems now, especially since it is a Sears product.

Also get yourself a stand alone fridge and freezer thermometer - leave it in for an hour -that will establish what the temperature really is which will help in diagnosing the cause.
Also trying unplugging it for 15 minutes so the display board loses power - then plug it back in - sometimes that will reset it.

The coils are embedded in the outer walls and will make the cabinet feel warm outside when the compressor is running. It needs about 4 inches of clear air space around all the outer case walls to properly get rid of its heat. If you have items stored too close to the outer walls they will act as insulation to keep heat from being dissipated. This can cause long run times.
A unit that has lost freon gas due to leakage, while unlikely, can also extend run times. Normal temperature should be about Zero when the dial is set to halfway.

I am working on a Kenmore elite up right freezer and all am getting on the display is 'OFF'. I tryed adjusting the display panel, but the panel would not move from 'OFF' and on refrigeration is taking place, the compressor is not running either. I plug the freezer out and plug it back in but i go the same 'OFF' on the dislpay panel.
