I have the same problem with a 20" RCA. If I turn on the TV from the unit itself, it goes off in 2 seconds. If I use the remote (universal) it always stays on. Just a solution that works for me. Best,

The first couple of seconds of operation, most TVs are doing some self-test and if something has failed making full power on dangerous (for fire) they will shut down.
Either a major component in the horizontal section has failed or the main power supply itself is defective.
ive had many problems with mu three philips tv and every repair on them was very exspensive they are unfortunately throw aways never buy one again. ive lost thousands..
I had the same exact problem!!!! If you unplug it, then plug it back in after a couple of days. You will hear a frying sound then a loud clap!!!! Solution: Replace it with a LCD.... Not worth getting fixed!!!
