When my computer wouldn't recognize my Pearl, these are the steps I followed after downloading the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1. This program installed firmware v1.2.5.0
remove the battery, start the program, hold the play button while plugging into usb, release the play button when the term "initializing" replaces "searching", click the start button to replace the firmware.
You might want to try leaving the "format data" box unchecked the first time. If that doesn't work and allow you to backup your music, bite the bullet and format the data area.
After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again. It also fixed my aac-error problem after I did it a second time and allowed it to format.
Resetting the device:
1. Press and hold the Power/Menu button for approximately 20 seconds.
2. Release the Power/Menu button.
3. Press the Power/Menu button again to turn on the player.

I got help from someone on this site that helped me fix my player. What you need to do (or what I did) is delete all of the RCA files from your computer completely. Then download the firmware upgrade from the RCA website (www.rcaaudiovideo.com) Once you finish that download, make sure that the player is not connected to your computer. Begin to press both the "Play" and the volume + buttons at the same time and then plug it into your computer. Then start the firmware updater at the same time; eventually, your computer will see that your player is there and that is basically all that I did.
a Couple of months ago I had sort of the same problem although my H10's got 6G...anyhow what solved my problem was downloading the current firmware, then I installed WMP 11 (10would also work) and restarted the device...then connected it and finally updated the firmware just by folowing the steps of the same programe...that's it hehe hope it works also for U guys. Oh and try to backup all your music or start downloading it all again as you'll loose it from the player.
Hi, you can try to upgrade the player's firmware, you can download it from the RCA Website (http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads.aspx?product=187), the firmware it's the second app listed.
If your computer doesn't recognize the player, you'll have to turn it
off and keep "PLAY" pressed for 10 seconds while connecting it to the
USB port, then update the firmware.
My MuVo was having problems until I installed the latest firmware.
The last firmware release was in August 2006. If you haven't updated the
player's firmware since then, try downloading it and installing Creative MuVo V200 Firmware 1.13.03.
