Error message STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

I have gotten two different messages. this is one of them. The other one has a lot of text and says to reboot and if that doesn't work to do it again and press f8. Tried both and neither work so far.

  • Anonymous Apr 14, 2012

I can't get off the blue screen unless i hold F8 down...then it gives me a bunch of options. I tried about five of them and they just kept giving me different error codes. It is still under warranty so I am taking it to get checked.

You may have a virus. If you can, run virus scan. Depending on your virus software, unless you reset the software to original settings, it may not recognize the virus. The reason for this is something you clicked on downloaded a virus. Even though you didn't allow this file to download onto your pc, your virus software doesn't see it that way. Resetting to original settings will allow it to see thee virus. If you can't boot to desktop to run scan, use boot disk that came with the pc. Ir try to start in safe mode, then trouble shoot.

SOURCE: STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Hardware could be the issue but these errors can vary. Most come from a damaged file itself, corrupt hardware drivers, or issues between Windows and other programs. Ntdll.dll errors can sometimes mean that hardware in your computer is malfunctioning but this is rare.

If it's a single temporary issue a simple reboot should do the trick.

If the error ONLY displays when you use a certain program, uninstall the program, reboot and install the MOST CURRENT version.

If the software has any UPDATES or SERVICE PACKS available, install them. The developers of the software may have found a bug in the program that causes this kind of error and released a patch for it. For most programs, you can click Help or About to check for updates on the toolbar while the program is open and running. Some require you go to the website and check for new versions or updates. Programs should be updated as often as updates are available to avoid problems and maintain security.

3rd party software has a habit of causing these kinds of errors.

You can also try:

Check the Windows Service Pack you're running. For Windows, if you're not running the latest servive pack (which is Service Pack 3) then you should update to the latest one available.

Update hardware drivers.

Disable Internet Explorer Add-Ons - if this error occurs when you start, run, or close IE, and add-on may be causing the problem. Disable on then restart IE, if you still have the problem, disable another and restart IE until you find the add-on causing the issue. You can also install a different Web browser like Firefox (you should always have a back up just in case something goes wrong with IE).

Rename the NLSPATH system variable. If this doesn't apply to your system then skip this step. Reset back to original name if renaming doesn't fix the problem.

Run a test on your memory for damage.

Make sure that the cable connecting the hard drive to the motherboard is securely connected.

Perform a repair installation of XP or completely re-install Windows XP. Of course, if you don't have your computer backed up you will loose all data and have to re-install all programs. If you do this, copy all of your data to an external hard drive, flash drive, CDs, etc.

Repairing or re-installing Windows XP will definitely fix the issue but you will find yourself rebuilding/replacing everything.

Hope this helps. It would have been easier to narrow down the issue and troubleshooting steps had you provided more information about the issue and your system's configuration. Please leave comments if you need further clarification on this solution.

Thanks!

"stop c0000221 unknown hard error

If you are getting this error when trying to reinstall from your XP cd, then it sounds like you have a loose damaged or incorrect cable to either your cdrom or hard drive. I suggest replacing them both with quality 80 wire 40 pin IDE cables. It can also be caused by incorrect configuration if you have RAID or SATA drives.
Finally you may want to try with just one stick of RAM installed. If you have more than one now; you should try each in the slot nearest the processor all by itself until you rule out one of them being bad (If it works with one stick and not the other, you know the other is bad).

There is more information on possible causes of this error at ahuma ; but my first suspicion on seeing the image checksum mismatch is that the file in question has been replaced with something else, a trojan or virus.

STOP C0000221 erro de hardware desconhecido systemroot system32 ntdll.dll

You may receive one of the following stop error messages while working on your Windows XP computer.
STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error
Path\File_nameSTOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error
C:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll (or another specific file or driver)
STOP: 0xC0000221 STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH
Path\File_name
Note: The error message may be discussed in many different formats-blue screen or message box. It depends on when the corrupt file was detected.
Similarly, you may receive the following STOP messages when a critical system file fails to load on your Windows NT and Windows 2000 computer.
STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error
<path>\<file_name>STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error
c:\winnt\system32\ntdll.dll
Note: Some other drive may also be given in the message.
On Windows 2000 the following error message may display:
STOP: 0xC0000221 STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH
<path>\<file_name>
You usually face this problem when an incorrect driver for one or more hardware is installed on your system. For instance, the error messages described above are displayed when you install a millions of instructions per second (MIPS) driver on a x86 system.
Cause of the Error
This error occurs if the file given in the error message is damaged.
Your Windows XP operating system checks the following files for integrity during system startup:
  • All driver files, excluding the files that loaded using the system loader to start your system .
  • All DLL (Dynamic Link Libraries) on the system. These include, Graphics Driver Interface (GDI), User, Ntdll, Crtdll, Shell, Kernel and several other DLL files on the system.
  • On Windows NT and 2000 computers, all DLLs loaded in the Window server address space are also checked.
The problem may also occur if an Iomega Zip drive is connected to the same cable as your hard disk drive.
Resolution Method
You can resolve this issue by removing the corrupt driver from your computer and then reinstalling a fresh and healthy copy of the driver. You may need to use the Device Manager utility to remove the driver. It is recommended that you clean your registry with the help of a reliable tool, such as RegGenie to ensure that all entries related to the uninstalled driver are removed from the system. After you have completely removed the corrupt driver, restart your system and install a fresh copy of the driver on the system.
If this step does not resolve the problem, you may have to reinstall Windows XP.
It is recommended that you regularly clean your registry with the help of a registry cleaner tool and perform antivirus and antispyware scan using tools, such as Antivirus Plus and StopZilla to prevent such errors from occurring on your system.

GOOD LUCK :-)

Blue screen on my laptop

Hi vkdelaossa

That error occurs if you have installed an inappropriate driver or the .dll named in the error has become corrupt.

To fix it you would need to a Repair Install of the Operating System.

If you are not sure how to do this then please reply with following details

Do you have either a Operating System installation disk or a Recovery Disk from the manufacturer of the laptop ?(you might have been prompted to create this the first time you used the laptop)
What make and model is your laptop?

Unknown Hard Error

It's probably a corrupted file on the hard drive due a variety of reasons. A simple defrag might fix it but it's unlikely, so it is probably preferable to a Repair function from your XP install CD. These kinds of errors with XP were not uncommon. After the Repair assuming it works and I'm fairly certain that it will, defrag your hard drive and then start getting the new updates for your system.

Windows xp installation

HI,

Here is what the Media test failure check cable eiting PXE ROM means:
Iam sure when we were changing some settings with the BIOS you must have done something wrong.Just reemember if you changed some settings over there.

try change the boot-order in the BIOS
try to disable "network-boot" in the BIOS.

This issue is often caused by either an incorrect setting in BIOS or a bad boot device, such as a bad hard disk drive. To resolve this issue,Isuggest you go through the steps in document CH000229 relating to a similar error message.

Now coming to System32\ntall.dll unknown hard error:

Restart your computer. The ntdll.dll error you're receiving could be due to a one-time, temporary issue and a simple reboot may resolve the problem completely.

If the ntdll.dll error only displays when you use a specific software program, uninstall the program, reboot your computer, and then install the latest version again from scratch.
Update drivers for any hardware in your computer where updated drivers are available. Outdated drivers sometimes cause ntdll.dll errors.

Test your memory for damage. If you're receiving ntdll.dll messages, one possible cause could be a bad memory module in your system. Testing your memory will either identify a problem or clear your RAM of any responsibility.

Perform a repair installation of Windows XP. If individual software reinstallations fail to resolve the problem, a repair installation of Windows will replace the ntdll.dll file. Remember to install all Windows service packs and other patches after this installation.

Perform a clean installation of Windows XP. A clean installation will completely remove Windows XP from your PC and install it again from scratch. I don't recommend this step unless you have stepped through all previous troubleshooting steps and you're comfortable that the ntdll.dll error is not caused by a single program (Step #2). NOTE:a single program or plugin is causing the ntdll.dll error, reinstalling Windows and then reinstalling all of the same software may lead you right back to the same ntdll.dll error.

While extremely rare, if everything else has failed, including the clean installation from the last step, you could be dealing with a hardware issue with your hard drive. If so, replace the hard drive and then perform a new installation of Windows XP.
