Hello. i seem to be having troubles reading DVDs. It can burn/read CDs properly, however it cannot read/write DVDs at all. I tried upgrading/downgrading firmware but that did not work either. The system in which the DVD-RW is installed is: IBM Personal Computer (300PL) Pentium III 500MHz Windows XP professional Seagate 20GB HDD ATI Radeon 7000 Graphics Burning Software: Nero Burning Rom 6 & INCD (for packetwriting) Thanks
Right click My computer>Explore, and see if your dvd writer is showing as a DVD RW drive and not a CD Drive, then come back
Try My computer>properties>devicemanager>hardware tab, then click on the '+' sign on the DVD/CDROM drives line.
Right click your DVD then click uninstall.
Restart your pc and let Windows find it again, see if it sorts itself out.
If it's getting on a bit try a lens cleaner also.
Sorry but i think maybe time for a new one.

Yes.. it is detected as a DVDRW Drive. However, the name changes to CD Drive when a DVD media is inserted but it does open and xp displays the message "Insert Disc"
Here's a screenshot
Hello again. I have tried that but it still does not seem to work. There is delay when trying to open drive D with a dvd disc but eventually says that there is no disc.
