I did a last minute search to do the repair myself before I called somebody. I found this and figured "This will never work!"
I followed his suggestion and now my TV looks better than it has in months!!! I'M SO RELIEVED!!!! Although I really want to upgrade to a flat screen LCD or PLASMA but I'm not ready for the expensive. I have had this SONY for about 6 years!!
THANKS TVDUDE!!!
My daughter kicked her shoe into my TV today and the green screen thing happened. Thanks to that Best Solution... my TV looks better than before. It was very easy and took only a few minutes. Thank you so much for posting that.
Well i thought i'll be upgrading my TV for a new LCD or plasma TV, but after doing this solution......dang, i was able to fix it. Thanks for this easy quick fix.
I'm 58 years old. Have had red lines forever. Tonight turned tv on and it faded to blue.Kept on shutting off Red led light flashed 8 times Read your info. Decided I had nothing to lose. I actually fixed it myself. Probably just a quick short time fix but I'm happy tonight. I guess I'll start looking for new TV. Don't know if I'll go with another Sony. I've this one for 5 years. Should last longer than that (I think)
Its unbelievably easy to fix. there are 2 screws holding the front speaker cover on (there are plugs covering the screws that you take out first).Unscrew and reove speaker cover(you got to give it a bit of a tug to get it off ) then remove the piece of wood cover held by 4 screws .. Once you have taken that off when you look down you will see 6 screw like adjusters with a white painted mark on them (do not touch top row ) the green is controlled by the bottom middle screw ,, witha screwdriver turn it counter clockwise (to the left) ever so slightly (1-3mm)and there you have your TV back .. when the screen turns red use the bottom right screw and blue bottom left screw.. I hope this helps

with that model after the tv shuts off pres the "menu" and "device" button on the front panel buttons together for about 8 seconds and then the power led will blink green. it will blink a certain number of times then pause and blink a different number of times this will be the error code for the fail that the tv thinks it is having. for example it may blink green 6 times then pause and blink 1 more time that would be code 61 check the code and repost and i will tell you the next course of action good luck
Is the projector receiving a source signal? if not it will power itself down after whatever time you have it set to do so when no signal is present. Just an idea?
Check your CRT boards on the end of the tubes for burn spots, and burnt components, check the resistors to make sure they are not shorted, burnt, and they read the correct resistance. Check the diodes to make sure they conduct in one direction only and are not shorted or open.
or a new lamp. you could first replace the lamp. the screen might work fine for a couple of seconds, but then it fades away or deteriorates. This means the lamp is going bad.
Yup, it seems a lamp problem can give a blinking green light over the 10 times (1 - 10 times for diagnostic codes), but in my case rather than replace the bulb if it works for a minute then resets with the green light blinking, do what I did. Take the lamp out and inspect it, it has breather screens top and bottom, if it cant breath because there clogged with dust, clean them, and you can remove the screens, use q-tips and clean the inside. I saved the cost of a lamp and it's working fine!
try holding in the menu and input buttons together on the front panel for about 8 seconds to see if the self diagnosis feature will blink a two digt code then let me know what happens
alright guys...blew a bulb....fixed that. still didint work...found out it was ballast...replaced that. tv worked for a month..all the sudden hdmi input didint work id plug in my playstation and screen would turn green and say "hdmi color has been corrupted" im thinking wtf? so a week later it works fine then just turns off in middle of watching espn... comes back on an hour later...only to turn off again...it just turns black for ten seconds then just turns off and the red and green lights blink at intervals of one second....replaced a bulb..not that, same problems.......when the tv comes on for the ten minutes before it quits working the pic and sound are great i just dnt get it...is it shorting out? color wheel bad? a fan?
Mine just did the same thing. Except for it was green instead of blue. The service manual states 8 flashes from the light stands for an overvoltage. After reading the manual for a bit I realized the bottom row of 3 adjuster screws from behind the speaker grill adjust the output for the red, green, and blue colors. BEFORE OPENING ANY TV OR MONITOR PLEASE KNOW THAT THE VOLTAGE INSIDE CAN KILL YOU EVEN IF UN-PLUGGED so please be careful and only adjust what is mentioned here. I un-plugged the tv, removed the grill and the board covering the internals, and carefully turned the 3 adjustment screws all the way down. I then waited about 10 minutes (don't know if this made a difference). I turned on the tv, turned the channel to an auxilary input (for a black screen), and slowly raised each of the 3 bottom screws one by one up clockwise until i could see a faint green, blue, or red line (depending on the screw), and then turned each one back a hair until the screen was black again. Only adjust one at a time, the order for colors are blue, green, then red from the left. I hope this fixes your problems. Be careful when working inside a tv, I suggest not using a screw driver to adjust the screws due to the possibility of it slipping and someone getting hurt.
