Suddenly I can not charge my iPhone 3gs (iOS 4.2.1) with my 12V charger in the car. Any idea what is wrong ?

When pluged into the car liter outlet does the moniter light come on? 1 check the fuse by unsrewing the pin tip of the plug, look to see if the fuse is blown, you may need a OHM merter if you can't see if the wire is still in one piece. 2 check the cigar lighter in the vehical with another plug or lighter to see if it works if not then find whitch fuse is blown in the fuse box of the vehicle, and replace either or both.

Nuvi will not charge when plugged into car charger but will charge when plugged into house charger

  1. Check that the cigarette lighter socket is working. If not it may be a fuse blown in the fuse-board.
  2. In the charger plug, that goes into the cigarette lighter there is a fuse which may be blown. At the tip of the plug you'll see a ring. On most chargers it's silver but some are black. Unscrew the ring and the plug will come apart. Take care not to lose the small metal tip when you open it. Replace the fuse. If there's power going to the charger and this fuse is replaced your problem should be solved.

Any kind of charger that i attempt to plug into my cigarett lighter don't charge the devices, does this mean that the fuse has blown and needs replacing? thanks in advance!

The charger should have a light which shows that it has power. Check power at the socket by operating the cigarette lighter. If the lighter heats up you have power at the lighter. If not, locate the fuse box and check the lighter fuse. If the fuse is intact and you have power at the socket the charger is faulty.
Bear in mind chargers also have a fuse in the connector nose. Most unscrew at the nose and the fuse can be removed from the charger.

My garmin charges with my computer but stopped charging in the car

The most obvious answer is a possible blown fuse in the cigarette lighter socket or the in the tip of the charger plug. Most charger plug fuses are accessed by unscrewing the metal tip. Check both for good fuses.

If this doesn't solve the problem, make sure the points of contact between the charger, cradle and GPS are all free of dirt and grime. Don't forget to vacuum the cigarette lighter socket - especially if it is used as a lighter, too.

Fuse blown on cigarette lighter Saturn 2001

It sounds like you have a bad charging cable for the GPS or the cable is overloading the cigarette lighter.

The cigarette lighter is designed for less power then a 12v power outlet.

Therefore it is easy to blow the fuse for the cigarette light if you install something that draws too much power.

Cigarette lighter sockets no power

Cell phone chargers commonly blow the fuses at the power points. It seems that our charger adaptors do not match the socket properly, and the positive part of the charger hits the negative of the socket, resulting in a blown fuse. If you have a charger, and it works, leave it in the socket. Don't take it with you. Repeated insertions of the adaptor to the socket magnifies this issue.
