Hung up I had turned the Sony DSC-S85 off but before it cycled off I took the battery out. Now the camera will not turn on and the lens is partly extended. I have a good battery in it and have tried other known good batteries. But it will not turn on. HELP!!!!!!!!
There are SMD fuses in the power supply section and one of this is blown off.Try and trace the power supply flow and you can short the blown section temporarily.Or replace with SMD resistor value 0 ohms. There are SMD fuses in the power supply section and one of this is blown off.Try and trace the power supply flow and you can short the blown section temporarily.Or replace with SMD resistor value 0 ohms.

I had exactly the same problem. I checked the shutter swithch but it was working correctly so it was just melfunctioning of software? I played around, taking video in different resolutions etc and eventually it came back to normal. If you can not charge the battery, use rubber band(s) hitching it between lens and power switch, snug the switch stay in pushed position. You then should be able to charge the battery to play the camera. Good luck.
Flash Board part number is as follows.. 147667311... FLASH UNIT, available in Part Store. If you are not comfortable with replacing above flash board in DSC-S85, take camera to qualified camera tech because camera will be apart in detail to replace flash board. Thanks.
Whats happening is there is
some sort of problem with the lens, it could happen in many different
ways such as sand or dirt in the lens gears or impact damage.
A couple solutions would be to either buy a defective camera online and
make one good camera from the two if you can do that sort of thing
yourself, or secondly have it repaired by somebody.
Don't bother
trying to send the camera to Sony (though you can call them and verify
what I'm about to say) because they will want $150+ to do the repair
for you. Parts are not cheap to buy from them.
hey there same thing happened to me, solution go to setup button where it says camera go down to digital zoom turn to on,
then go to setup 1 where it says conversion lens, turn to off solved my problem
hope this helps you.
