There are green shapes and lines on the t.v screen, mainly where the picture is white. I have tried turning the tv off at the mains overnight but problem still persists in the morning also tried altering contrast on the remote control.

Many Sony LCD projection TV's have a problem with optic block failures and your description is exactly what happens. Picture starts turning yellow or green and blotches of yellow or green. Many Sony model have an extended manufacture warranty on these optic blocks and if you get me the model and serial # of your unit I can provide more info.

When did you replaced lamp last time in tv? If lamp has not been replaced in last 2-3 years then its time to change lamp. Buy Sony original lamp for good picture in tv.
Hi, Question shows its Sony KDF-50WE655 dlp tv that has lamp inside and it seems its time to replace lamp. Did you replaced lamp in tv recently? If not, replace it. Lamp replacement procedure would be written in user manual and please buy Sony original lamp for better result. Thanks.
Please adjust TINT control of Video Settings in Menu that will adjust color tone of TV. I do not think this problem is related with Lamp because TV screen does not have any color blobs or spots. Above solution is for Sony KDF-55WF655 model TV, if your model number is different, let me know. Thanks.
If its a LCD projection TV (such as Sony Wega, Hitachi, Epson, Philips,
and some Panasonic, some Mitsubishi), and the green image is in the whole
screen or just one part as a blob or a line. Is most probably that one of your
LCD Color Filters is damaged (burned out or starting to get busted), I don’t
know if you can just replace the color filter, I believe you need to
change the whole light engine system or the optical block. There are some
places around, I found some on ebay but you should definitely try on
discountdashmerchantdotcom their price range $260.00 - $330.00

My computer did this and I think my TVs just gone the same way. Was definitely a loose connection somewhere. In the computer monitor it was because the pins in the plug were slightly bent and if I moved the wire the picture got better. In the end I had to replace the connecting cable
