My Alpine cda-9847R stereo keeps displaying 'Error 01' when plugging the ipod in. It plays the song for about 20 seconds then the ipod reverts back to the menu screen and the stereo displays the error message. The only way to clear it is the hold the reset button in on the stereo, which usually works for about a day or so.
Any ideas???
My alpine cda 9856 only displays that message when my ipod dies. so your ipod pobably dies then the head unit recharges it enough in the time your resetting it that it can play again. :)
Sorry but the ipod should never "die" when it's plugged in. I own this system and have encountered the same problem. The ipod should be continuously charging if plugged in, therefore it should never run out of juice.
Things I've been told to do f rom Alpine themselves:
-Get latest version of ipod software from itunes -Plug ipod back into unit (via cord) with car turned off -hold the center button and play button until ipod resets itself -take off alpine face -press the little button behind face to reset unit
I have done this with some success. The problem returned once in a while, however, for some reason after doing the process listed again a few months back, I've not had the error.

The ipod cable plugs into the rear of the stereo. Here is a link to the installation manual: http://vault.alpine-usa.com/products/documents/CDA-9885%20OM.PDF

You can purchase the KCA-420i and connect it to to the ai-net port behind the headunit. This will allow you to send signal from your ipod to your alpine headunit while still retaining your operating functions to the ipod. Can be purchased for about 10 bucks on ebay.
ok when you look at the front of your system there is a button that has a (F) on it press and hold tell stuff comes on the screen then just keep pressing it tell you get to AUX off you should get it from there hope this helps
My ipods fuction fine with my Alpine CDA-9885 ... have you tried pressing the display button on the Alpine? The KCE-422i cable takes quite a beating ... You might check the cables.
I have the same problem with a CDE-9870R and my iPod. I tried my daughter's iPod, and it works. I did not search any further, but it may come from the iPod software version. Mine is more up-to-date than hers (5th generation iPod 1.1.2 2006-06-28 update).
