Convergence Problem? Need some good advice before calling repairman. Watching Home Alone with daughter and suddenly screen goes green and tv turns off. Turn tv back on and tried aligning colour convergence from Setup menu. All aligned except the blue colour. Can scroll left and right but can not align by scrolling up nor down. Also noticed the smell like a burnt circuit or something similar in the living room during this time. Help and thanks!

    Techman,

Thank you for your prompt response and your helpful advice for my TV problem. I just spoke to a local repairman and he stated that these ICs would need to be changed every 5 to 6 years to maintain the unit's convergence. Does this sound reasonable from your experience? I appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Thanks again Techman for your knowledge and info. A repairman came by yesterday and opened up the TV and took what looked like a circuit board back to the shop to change the ICs and a part he said that looked as though it was "fried". He will also reset the board back to Panasonic factory settings.

The initial problem was that the only colours seen were red and green. That was followed by no colour at all only black and white television. For some reason, when I watch a DVD or blue ray, full colour returns.

The convergence IC most likly shorted, and burnt out the b+ feed resistor. There are two IC's inside this set to control the green red and blue convergence. They are most likly STK 392-###. The ### is another set of numbers that change depending on the model of the set. They each have three amps inside each one. You really should have both of the IC's replace with only original parts, as sub parts do not hold up and will not last as long as they should. Both IC's are soldered into place and if you decide to do this yourself, please be aware of the extemly high voltage inside of these puppys. there really are no user replaceable parts inside these sets unless you have solid state repair experience. Not only will yopu need the proper IC's, but you will have to find out what was burning. my best advice, Play it safe and call in a trained tech to assist you with this repair. The price should run someware between 300 to 450.00 to repair. Good Luck Please do not forget to rate this thread.

Only when they go bad, or when one goes bad, they both should be replaced, and only ONLY use the proper manufacturers recommended part. Do not use any cheap replacement IC's as they do not hold up.

Good day!!!I i had problems with the fl 231 fuse on my RCA D52W23 proj.tv....i...

FL231. FUSE.... The RCA ITC222 chasis has a common problem. and it not all that difficult to repair. Does your rca projection tv have read blue and green shadows? Does it have bowing in affect on the top and bottom of picture? when you turn it on does some thin red green and blue line bow in from the top then go away. The main question to determine if you have the fl231 fuse problem is if you go into customer menu then setup do you have the "CONVERGENCE' option. If you do not. then i suspect you have this problem. In the manufactering of these sets Lead free solder is used. now there is great debate over the use of lead free. connection tend to be more brittle. cracks develop around the solder connections of the high voltage flyback transformer. this very small crack set up oscillations in the cuicit with a 400 milliamp fuse. THis fuse cant take it. When this fuse blows the processor then does not know its a projection tv with three projection tubes. it thinks its a crt tube tv. and crt tube tv dont need "convergence" so it removes the convergence from the set.

TO REPAIR... 1. Warning. this set can generate leathal dangerous voltages even unplug do not attempt if you have no experence with electronics.
2. Remove the back. there a number of torx 20 screws.
3. what you will see is a number of circit boards There will be one on the right and one on the left. the one on the right is the small signal board. the one on the left is called the power deflection board. it has a large black part with a big red or black wire coming from the top, this is the flyback.Next to the flyback on the right of it there will be three small rectangular componets tan or brown in color. these are fuses. the one in the middle is the fl231 fuse.
4. getting to this fuse can be difficult. these two cuicit boards sit on a tray that is removable. to remove this tray it is pulled out and up. BUt watch the wires.loosen the wire tyes.
5 when you get the tray up the bottom side of the board can be accessed
you will now have to unsolder that fuse. one side of this fuse is under a plastic part of the tray. i have found the easest way is to cut away the plastic to get to it. if you dont want to do this you will have to remove the board. only remove half of the plastic brace
6. REPLACE FUSE RCA PART 259213
7 RESOLDER FLYBACK CONNECTIONS simply heat up and add a little solder
8 reassemble set. make sure you examine the set for loose connections.
9 and remember "BE Careful'

Left top and right top of screen curled, bottom middle of screen has a hump to it

Yes you need to repair the convergence circuit. If you know how to solder and use a meter this can be fixed easily by yourself. If you call a repairman to do it, it will run you $300-$500 depending on your area. Let me know if you can use a meter and solder and we can move forward with repairing you set.

Blue wide streaks in my 42" Sony TV model KDFE42A10.

I have the same TV and the same problem and it's also just over 2 years old (bought it June 2006) when the problem started. Every day, I saw the blue streak cover more of the tv, now 6 months later, it has all turned to green and the entire tv has a green tint. It looks like I am watching tv in murky green water.
I am lucky that I purchased the additional warranty on the tv and finally got around to calling them. I hate to tell you this, but they told me that the optical light has gone up and they are replacing the tv.

Smoking tv!!!

Good Day, gongora326;
It sounds like the TV has some type of short in the power or high voltage circuits.
I would recommend that you call a factory authorized service company to come to your home and give you an estimate.
I hope you take my advice, good luck, big IRISH.
